Instructions for use of Diastix urine sugar test strips

Diastix test strips are used to visually determine the glucose content in urine.They are suitable for self-control by people with diabetes and for medical use.The test strips react specifically to glucose and use a color change to indicate whether and to what extent glucose is present in the urine.This may indicate changes in metabolism and may require adjustments to diet or medication.Always stick to the testing plan set by your doctor.

Collection and preparation of the urine sample

Collect the urine in a clean, dry container or swipe the test strip through the stream of urine.Carry out the test as soon as possible after urine collection.If the test cannot be performed within one hour, keep the urine sample refrigerated until then and allow it to warm to room temperature before testing.Unpreserved urine should not be left at room temperature for too long, otherwise microbial contamination may occur that break down the glucose and distort the test result.Preservatives in urine can also affect test results.

Storage and handling of Diastix test strips

Write the opened date on the can label.Use the test strips within 6 months of opening and ensure that the expiry date is not exceeded.Store the test strips at room temperature between 15 and 30°C and protect them from direct sunlight.No prescription is required for this product.

Be sure to protect the test strips from humidity, light and heat to maintain the reactivity of the reagent.Discoloration or darkening of the test field may indicate reduced reactivity.If positive and/or negative controls do not produce accurate results, discard the container of test strips and perform the test with fresh strips.Always keep the test strips in the original container and do not store them in other containers as this may affect the reactivity of the reagent.Do not remove the desiccant and immediately close the lid tightly after removing a test strip.Do not touch the test field and only briefly immerse it in the urine or pull it through the urine stream to avoid washing out the reagents.Read the test result after 30 seconds and compare it with the color chart on the can label in good lighting.
