The preparation is an antidiarrheal medicine and an antidote for poisoning.It is used to prevent absorption into the body in acute oral poisoning and drug overdose.It also serves to accelerate excretion in the event of poisoning with substances that can pass from the intestine to the liver, such as carbamazepine, phenobarbital, phenylbutazone and theophylline.In addition, it is used for the symptomatic treatment of diarrhea in adults.In infants and children it should only be used as directed by a doctor.

The active ingredient of this medicine is medicinal charcoal.50 g of powder contains 50 g of medicinal charcoal.No other components are included.

Contraindications

The medicine must not be taken if you have feverish diarrhea or if you have been poisoned with corrosive substances such as strong acids and alkalis.In these cases, medicinal charcoal can complicate diagnostic measures.There are no restrictions during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Dosage

In the event of poisoning, depending on the amount of poison ingested, it is recommended to mix 50 to 100 g of powder with approx. 400 ml of water or unsweetened tea and administer it orally or via a gastric tube.For children, the administration of 1 g/kg body weight (max. 50 g) is recommended.In severe poisoning and to interrupt the absorption of substances that can pass from the intestine to the liver, repeated administration at intervals of 2 to 4 hours is indicated.In general, laxative measures must be carried out following the administration of charcoal.

As a supportive therapy for diarrhea, adults receive 10 g of the drug several times a day.The preparation is ready for use as a slurry with water in a ratio of 1:10 after stirring.In infants and children, the medicine should generally only be used as part of medical treatment.

Intake

It is taken by stirring the powder with water or unsweetened tea and administering it orally or via a stomach tube.In severe poisoning, repeated administration at intervals of 2 to 4 hours may be necessary.Purgatory measures must be carried out following the administration of charcoal.As a supportive therapy for diarrhea, the medicine is taken as a suspension with water in a ratio of 1:10.

Patient information

Medicinal charcoal is not effective for poisoning with substances such as lithium, thallium, iron salts, hydrogen cyanide, boric acid, methanol, ethanol and ethylene glycol.In these cases, other poison removal measures are required.Medicinal charcoal is also not effective for chemical burns caused by acids or alkalis and can complicate subsequent endoscopic diagnostics.In infants and children, the medicine should only be used as part of medical treatment.

Pregnancy

There are no restrictions for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Notes

No prescription is required for this product.After shaking, the screw cap should be opened carefully, otherwise the contents may spray.The preparation should be kept dry and well closed.After the expiry date, the medicine should no longer be used.Store drug out of reach of children!

Other

Since medicinal charcoal is excreted unchanged, the feces turn black.Laxative measures should be carried out after taking medicinal charcoal.
