Product features

Melgisorb Ag is an antimicrobial alginate dressing with a silver complex.It is particularly suitable for heavily exuding wounds with an increased risk of infection.This dressing absorbs up to 45% more exudate than other silver dressings and provides sustained antimicrobial effectiveness.The release of silver ions helps fight various microorganisms.Thanks to the stable fiber structure, the bandage can be removed without leaving any residue.

The benefits of Melgisorb Ag include excellent absorption capacity in deep, heavily exuding wounds, sustained microbial effectiveness, protection of the wound and support of autolytic debridement, facilitating wound healing.In addition, thanks to its fiber strength, the bandage can be removed in one piece.

Areas of application

Melgisorb Ag can be used for moderately to heavily exuding, superficial and deeper wounds with a risk of infection.These include postoperative wounds, traumatic wounds such as skin lesions or incisions, leg ulcers, pressure ulcers, diabetic ulcers, skin donor sites, wound cavities, and first and second degree burns.

Mepilex Border or Mextra Superabsorbent are suitable as a secondary dressing.Tubifast is recommended for fixation.Melgisorb Ag can be used under the supervision of a healthcare professional for infected wounds or wounds at increased risk of infection.

Application

Before use, the wound should be cleaned and irrigated according to standard protocols.The healthy skin surrounding the wound should be dried.

The dressing is cut to size using sterile scissors or folded so that it completely covers the wound.It is placed directly on the wound bed and deep wounds are loosely filled with it without the material protruding beyond the edges of the wound.Melgisorb Ag is then covered with a non-occlusive secondary dressing.

Dressing change and removal

Melgisorb Ag can remain in place for up to seven days.The frequency of dressing changes depends on the condition of the wound and the level of exudation.In the beginning, a daily change may be necessary.The dressing should be changed when the secondary dressing becomes saturated with wound exudate or as indicated by normal clinical practice.

To remove it, the secondary dressing is first carefully removed.If the wound appears dry, the dressing should be soaked with a sterile saline solution before removal.The dressing is then carefully removed from the wound bed and discarded.If necessary, the wound can be irrigated according to medical standards before applying a new dressing.
