Areas of application

Dequonal is a ready-to-use oral medicine based on dequalinium chloride and benzalkonium chloride.It is used for temporary supportive treatment for inflammation of the oral mucosa and for temporary use for bad breath caused by germ formation in the oral cavity.No prescription is required for this product.

Active ingredients and ingredients

The solution contains dequalinium chloride (1.5 mg) and benzalkonium chloride (3.5 mg) as active ingredients.Other ingredients include bitter fennel oil, ethanol 96%, glycerol, levomenthol, macrogol glycerol hydroxystearate, mint oil, peppermint oil, star anise oil and purified water.

Contraindications

Dequonal must not be used in cases of known hypersensitivity to the active ingredients or other ingredients, in infants and small children under 2 years of age and in patients with bronchial asthma or other respiratory diseases that are associated with pronounced hypersensitivity of the respiratory tract.The medicine should not be used on wounds.

Dosage and application

Before initial use and after more than three days of non-use, the pump should be operated six times to remove any air present.The solution can be rinsed undiluted with 5 ml each morning and evening after eating.Alternatively, 3-5 sprays can be sprayed into the oral cavity every two hours, or more frequently in severe cases.The diseased areas should be sprayed while holding your breath.Dequonal should not be used long-term without medical or dental advice.If you have a fever or if the symptoms do not subside significantly after three days, you should see a doctor.

Side effects

Rarely, hypersensitivity and discoloration of the tongue, teeth or dentures can occur.Very rarely, local allergic and non-allergic reactions, taste disorders and anaphylactic reactions can occur.Laryngeal spasm in infants and children up to 2 years of age, swelling of the pharyngeal mucosa, inflammation of the oral mucosa and delay in wound healing may occur with unknown frequency.

Patient information

Children should only use Dequonal if they have mastered the gargling technique.Patients with allergic contact allergies should not use the active ingredients as sensitization is possible.Eye contact with the medicine should be avoided.There are no known negative effects on the ability to drive and use machines.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

There are insufficient data on the safety of use in pregnant women.Women who are breastfeeding should not use Dequonal unless their doctor thinks it is absolutely necessary.

Storage

Dequonal should be stored at a temperature not exceeding 25°C.Once opened, the solution has a shelf life of three months.All medicines should be kept out of the reach of children.
