Bromelain-POS® is a herbal medicine that is used as an adjunctive treatment for acute swelling after operations and injuries, especially of the nose and sinuses.The active ingredient bromelain comes from the pineapple stem and is available in gastro-resistant tablets.No prescription is required for this product.

Areas of application

Bromelain-POS® is used to treat swelling after injuries or operations, especially in the area of the nose and sinuses.

Dosage and instructions for use

Adolescents aged 12 and over and adults should take one Bromelain-POS® tablet 1-2 times a day about 30 minutes before meals.The tablets should be swallowed whole with sufficient liquid, such as a glass of water.Splitting the tablets is not recommended as they have an enteric coating that protects the active ingredient from stomach acid and allows it to be released in the small intestine.

You should not use the medicine for longer than 4-5 days without medical advice.If you have long-lasting or recurring symptoms, you should consult your doctor.There are no known symptoms of overdose.If you forget to take a dose, continue taking it at the next scheduled time without doubling the dose.

Contraindications

Bromelain-POS® should not be used if you are hypersensitive to the ingredients.Caution is also advised in the event of blood clotting disorders or upcoming operations.The medicine should not be used in children under 12 years of age, during pregnancy or while breast-feeding, unless your doctor has prescribed it for you.

Side effects

Possible side effects may include gastrointestinal symptoms such as diarrhea, skin rashes, allergic reactions, and attacks of shortness of breath.If you notice any undesirable effects, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Composition

The tablets contain the active ingredients pineapple stem bromelain (56.25-95 mg) and bromelain (500 FIP-units).The excipients included are cellulose, microcrystalline, copovidone, maltodextrin, magnesium stearate (vegetable), silicon dioxide, highly disperse methacrylic acid-methyl methacrylate copolymer (1:1), methacrylic acid-ethyl acrylate copolymer (1:1), talc and triethyl citrate.

Important notes

Caution is advised if you are allergic to pineapple, kiwi, melon and papaya.Bromelain-POS® can interact with other medicines.Therefore, tell your doctor or pharmacist about all the medicines you are taking.

Storage

Bromelain-POS® must be stored in the refrigerator (2 °C - 8 °C).After opening, the medicine can be stored at room temperature (not above 25 °C) for a maximum of 4 weeks.
