Ribwort plantain leaves are a medicinal tea intended for internal and external use.No prescription is required for this product.

Areas of application

Ribwort plantain leaves are used for colds of the respiratory tract, inflammatory changes in the mucous membranes of the mouth and throat and for inflammatory skin changes.

Mode of action

The ingredients of ribwort plantain, including mucilage, aucubin (bitter substance) and tannins, have a soothing, astringent and germicidal effect.They promote sputum production, relieve spasms in the bronchial tubes and form a protective layer on the mucous membranes of the respiratory tract that blocks irritation and inhibits dry coughs.

Dosage and instructions for use

For all age groups, it is recommended to prepare a tea infusion three to four times a day.To do this, pour boiling water (approx. 150 ml) over a tea bag and let it steep for about 10 to 15 minutes.The tea can be drunk, used for rinsing or gargling or used for poultices.For the latter, cold water (approx. 150 ml) is poured over the tea and left to stand for 1 to 2 hours while stirring frequently.

Without medical advice, the medicine should not be used for longer than a week if the symptoms do not improve or if they recur regularly.There are no known symptoms of overdose.

Contraindications

Ribwort plantain leaves must not be used if there is hypersensitivity to the ingredients.There are no sufficient studies on use during pregnancy and breastfeeding.In these cases, a doctor or pharmacist should be consulted before use.

Side effects

So far there are no known side effects.However, if symptoms of discomfort or changes occur during treatment, a doctor or pharmacist should be informed.

Composition

One tea bag (1.4 g) contains 1.4 g of ribwort plantain leaves as the active ingredient.Other components are not included.

Storage

The medicine should be protected from moisture and stored in the dark, for example in the outer box.It must not be used after the expiry date stated on the packaging.
