Betaisodona® wound gauze 3 mg/cm² ointment gauze

Betaisodona® wound gauze is a germicidal agent, also known as an antiseptic, intended for use on skin and wounds.It is used as a germicidal dressing to prevent skin infections when there is a high risk of infection.It is also used to treat existing skin infections as well as the anti-infection treatment of cuts and abrasions, other injuries, burns, bed sores, pressure ulcers and infected lower leg ulcers such as pressure sores and leg ulcers.

Active ingredients and ingredients

The active ingredient in Betaisodona® wound gauze is povidone-iodine, which is contained in a concentration of 300 mg povidone-iodine, corresponding to 30 mg iodine, per 100 square centimeters of gauze.In addition, the ointment gauze contains the excipients Macrogol 400, Macrogol 4000, Macrogol 6000, purified water and cotton as a carrier material.

Application

The wound gauze should be applied every time the dressing is changed.In the initial phase or for heavily infected wounds, the gauze can also be changed several times a day.The brown color of the ointment indicates the effectiveness of the preparation.Increasing discoloration indicates a decrease in effectiveness.If the discoloration is complete, it is no longer effective and a new gauze should be applied.

Use should be continued as long as there are signs of inflammation.If the symptoms do not improve after several days of use or occur again, a doctor should be consulted.

Application instructions

Tear open the bag as directed and remove the gauze.Remove the protective film and place the wound gauze on the affected area of skin.A bandage can be applied over the gauze.

Special Notes

Particular caution is required when using the drug if there is thyroid disease or goiter.In such cases, the medicine should only be used over a long period of time and over large areas if the doctor has expressly instructed you to do so.Even after therapy has ended, thyroid function should be monitored.

In older people, newborns and infants up to 6 months of age, the preparation should only be used on the express instructions of the doctor and in an extremely limited manner.A check of thyroid function is necessary.

The ointment contained in the wound gauze is fat-free and washable.It can generally be removed with warm water and soap.In stubborn cases, ammonia or fixing salt, which are available in pharmacies or drugstores, can help.

The preparation has no influence on the ability to drive or use machines.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

During pregnancy and breastfeeding, the medicine should only be used on the express instructions of the doctor and in an extremely limited manner.A check of the child's thyroid function is necessary.Ingestion of the ointment by the infant through the mouth must be avoided.

Storage

Keep medicines out of the reach of children.Note the expiry date on the pack.

Other

Discoloration of the gauze means the end of its effectiveness.A new ointment gauze should then be used.If an infection occurs again after healing has been successful, use can be resumed at any time.After use in infants and small children, thyroid function should be checked by a doctor.
