Area of application

Acimol® is suitable for people who suffer from burning when urinating, constant urge to urinate and small amounts of urine, typical symptoms of a urinary tract infection or bladder infection.Women in particular are more often affected due to their anatomical nature.If conventional home remedies such as bladder teas or increased drinking do not help, Acimol® with the active ingredient L-methionine offers natural support through urinary acidification.It is suitable for people with acute bladder infections, chronic urinary tract infections or a tendency to urinary stones, especially phosphate stones.The film-coated tablets with the body's own active ingredient L-methionine are well tolerated.

Acimol® with pH test strips film-coated tablets helps with bladder infections and urinary tract infections through natural urinary acidification.The active ingredient L-methionine is a natural amino acid that acidifies the urine.In this acidic environment, the proliferation of bacteria, especially E. coli, is inhibited.In addition to treating urinary tract infections, Acimol® is also used to prevent urinary stones and to optimize the effects of certain antibiotics.

The included pH test strips help to regularly check the urine pH value to monitor the effectiveness of Acimol®.A pH value below 6 makes sense in the long term to protect against bladder infections.

500 mg methionine

Excipients: cellulose, microcrystalline;croscarmellose, sodium salt;Eudragit NE 30 D;hypromelosis;macrogol 6000;Magnesium stearate (Ph. Eur.) [pflanzlich];corn starch, pre-gelatinized;Silicon dioxide, highly disperse;Talc;Titanium dioxide.

Contraindications

The medicine must not be taken in case of hypersensitivity to the active ingredient or one of the excipients, in congenital metabolic diseases such as homocysteinuria, in uric acid and cystine stone disorders, in renal insufficiency, in oxalosis, in methionine adenosyltransferase deficiency, in metabolic and renal tubular acidosis and in infants.

Dosage

Recommended use of Acimol® with pH test strips film-coated tablets:

Unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor, the usual dose is 1 - 2 tablets 3 times a day, corresponding to 0.5 - 1 g of methionine 3 times a day.The therapeutic aim is for the pH value of the urine to be less than pH 6. The effect of the drug can only occur after 5 - 6 days.

The duration of use depends solely on the therapeutic need.

Intake

The film-coated tablets are intended to be taken orally and should be taken with sufficient liquid, such as a glass of water.

Patient information

Particular caution when taking is required in patients with liver insufficiency or hepatogenic encephalopathy due to the risk of synthesis of neurotoxic mercaptans in bacterial metabolism.If there is a deficiency of folic acid, vitamin B2, B6 and/or B12, treatment with methionine can lead to an increase in homocysteine blood levels.For long-term use, ensure a diet rich in folic acid and vitamin B.Thyroid function should be checked before treatment with methionine, as homocysteine blood levels may be increased in hypothyroidism.Treatment with methionine can lead to increased calcium excretion in the urine, which is why the mineral balance should be checked regularly during long-term use.In patients at risk of acidosis, long-term treatment with methionine should be carried out with regular monitoring of the acid-base balance in the blood.There are no sufficient studies on the use of this medicine in children under 12 years of age.

There are no known effects on the ability to drive or use machines.

Pregnancy

There are insufficient data to support the use of methionine during pregnancy and breastfeeding.Pregnant and breastfeeding women should only take the medicine after the doctor has carefully weighed the benefits and risks.

Notes

If there is a deficiency of folic acid, vitamin B2, B6 and/or B12, treatment with L-methionine can lead to an increase in homocysteine levels.An increased occurrence of homocysteine in the blood can be viewed as an independent risk factor for the changes in the wall of the blood vessels that lead to “calcification”.When using Acimol® for a long time, it is important to ensure that you get enough folic acid and B vitamins in your diet.If necessary, supplementary intake should be taken.

Please do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the pack or outer packaging.The expiry date refers to the last day of the specified month.
