Area of application

This mineral supplement is used to bind phosphate from food and thus reduce the absorption of phosphate into the body.It is used in patients with severe kidney disease who require dialysis to treat and prevent elevated blood phosphate levels.

Active ingredients and ingredients

The preparation contains 950 mg of calcium diacetate, which corresponds to 240.73 mg of calcium ions.The following excipients are also included: carboxymethyl starch, sodium salt type A, croscarmellose, sodium salt, gelatin, hypromellose, magnesium stearate (vegetable), corn starch, virgin castor oil, saccharin, sodium salt, 40.38 mg sucrose, talc, orange flavor.

Contraindications

The medicine must not be taken if there is an increased calcium concentration in the blood or if there is an allergy to calcium acetate or one of the other ingredients.

Dosage

Always take the medicine exactly as described or after consulting your doctor or pharmacist.The recommended dose for adults is initially 1 film-coated tablet three times a day.The dosage depends on the phosphate concentration in the blood and should be checked regularly.The usual dose is 1 to 2 film-coated tablets three times a day, although the maximum dose of 6 tablets per day should not be exceeded.The treating doctor decides on the dosage and duration of use.

There are no data on use for children and adolescents under 18 years of age, therefore use cannot be recommended.

The treatment is long-term therapy and requires regular medical supervision.In the event of an overdose, symptoms such as muscle weakness, abdominal pain, constipation, nausea, vomiting, intense thirst, cardiac arrhythmias and loss of consciousness may occur.In this case, contact your doctor immediately.

If you forget to take a dose, do not take a double dose.Do not stop taking it without consulting your doctor.

Intake

The film-coated tablets should be taken whole with a little liquid, only with meals, so that the calcium acetate can work optimally.

There is an increased risk of hypercalcemia when taking medicines containing vitamin D at the same time.Learn about the signs of hypercalcemia and avoid additional calcium exposure with other medications.If cardiac glycosides are taken at the same time, regular EKG-checks are necessary.

The drug has no influence on the ability to drive, but impaired consciousness may occur due to hypercalcemia.Watch for signs of elevated calcium levels.

Pregnancy

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking.There are no data on use during pregnancy and breastfeeding.It should only be taken under a doctor's orders and regular monitoring of serum calcium levels.
