-14% Calcium acetate Nefro 950 mg film-coated tablets, 200 pcs

Instructions for use for Calcium acetate Nefro 950 mg film-coated tablets, 200 pcs

Area of application

This mineral supplement is used to bind phosphate from food, thereby reducing the absorption of phosphate into the body.It is used in patients with severe kidney disease who require dialysis to treat and prevent elevated blood phosphate levels.

Active ingredients / ingredients / ingredients

The film-coated tablets contain 950 mg calcium diacetate, which corresponds to 240.73 mg calcium ions. The following excipients are also included: carboxymethyl starch sodium salt type A, croscarmellose sodium salt, gelatin, hypromellose, vegetable magnesium stearate, corn starch, virgin castor oil, saccharin sodium salt, 40.38 mg sucrose, talc and orange flavor.

Contraindications

The medicine must not be taken if there is an increased calcium concentration in the blood or if there is an allergy to calcium acetate or one of the other ingredients.

Dosage

Always take the medicine exactly as described or as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. The recommended dose for adults is initially 1 film-coated tablet three times a day.The dosage depends on the phosphate concentration in the blood and should be checked regularly. The usual dose is 1 to 2 film-coated tablets three times a day, although the maximum dose of 6 tablets per day should not be exceeded. The treating doctor decides on the dosage and duration of use. There are no data available for children and adolescents under 18 years of age, therefore use is not recommended.

The treatment is long-term therapy and requires regular medical monitoring. An overdose can lead to an increased calcium concentration in the blood and calcification of tissue.Symptoms of overdose may include muscle weakness, abdominal pain, constipation, nausea, vomiting, intense thirst, irregular heartbeat, and loss of consciousness.Do not take a double dose if you forget to take a dose.Do not stop taking it without consulting your doctor.

Intake

The film-coated tablets should be taken whole with a little liquid, only with meals, so that the calcium acetate can have the best possible effect.

Patient information

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking calcium acetate.Nutritional counseling may be recommended to control dietary phosphate and calcium intake. The dosage is adjusted to the amount of phosphate absorbed through food and removed through dialysis.Regular monitoring of phosphate and calcium concentrations in the blood is required, at least once a month. There is an increased risk of hypercalcemia if you take medicines containing vitamin D at the same time.Learn about the signs of hypercalcemia. You should seek medical advice before taking antacids containing calcium. If cardiac glycosides are taken at the same time, regular EKG-examinations and checks of the calcium level are necessary.

Calcium acetate has no influence on the ability to drive or use machines. However, a greatly increased calcium concentration in the blood can lead to impaired consciousness such as drowsiness or weakness. Therefore, watch out for signs of increased calcium levels.

Pregnancy

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine. There are no data on the use of calcium acetate during pregnancy and breastfeeding.Only take calcium acetate on the express instructions of your doctor and under regular monitoring of serum calcium levels.
