Sodium Chloride Braun 10% is a concentrate for preparing an infusion solution that is used to supply sodium chloride.It is used for low sodium levels in the blood (hyponatremia), low chloride levels in the blood (hypochloremia) and for excess fluid with reduced concentration of salts in the blood (hypotonic hyperhydration).

Active ingredient and composition

The active ingredient in sodium chloride brown 10% is sodium chloride.1 ml of the concentrate contains 100 mg sodium chloride.The other ingredient is water for injections.

Sodium Chloride Brown 10% is available as a clear, colorless aqueous solution in polyethylene ampoules with a content of 10 ml, in packs of 20 ampoules, and in glass vials with a content of 100 ml, in packs of 20 vials.

Application and dosage

Sodium Chloride Braun 10% is administered by a healthcare professional as an intravenous infusion after being diluted in an appropriate carrier solution.The dosage is determined by the doctor based on the serum sodium level and the patient's body weight.The maximum daily dose depends on the need for correction and is 3 - 6 mmol sodium per kg body weight for adults and 3 - 5 mmol sodium per kg body weight for children.

Special instructions and precautions

Sodium Chloride Braun 10% must not be used if there is an increased sodium level in the blood (hypernatremia) or an increased chloride level in the blood (hyperchloremia).Particular caution is required in the case of low potassium levels in the blood, certain diseases such as heart failure, fluid accumulation in the tissue, high blood pressure, severe kidney dysfunction and treatment with corticosteroids or ACTH.Checks of blood electrolyte levels and water balance as well as acid-base status are necessary.

Side effects

Like all medicines, sodium chloride Braun 10% can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them.Possible side effects include increased blood sodium and chloride levels, acute volume overload, diarrhea, increased urine output, and irritation or inflammation of the venous wall when infused into smaller veins.

Storage

Sodium Chloride Brown 10% should be kept out of the reach of children.The medicine must not be used after the expiry date stated on the container and the outer carton.The containers are intended for single use.After use, the container and any remaining solution should be discarded.The medicine should only be used if the solution is clear and the container is intact.
