Summary: Sodium Chloride 5.85% Brown is a concentrated solution of sodium chloride for the preparation or fortification of infusion solutions. It is used to increase sodium and chloride levels in the blood and to treat excess fluid. It is also used in paediatrics to lower elevated levels of ammonia in the blood due to severe inborn errors of metabolism. It is important to read the package leaflet and consult a doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions. It should not be used in cases of increased sodium or chloride levels in the blood and in certain conditions such as heart failure, renal insufficiency and hyperacidity of the blood. Side effects such as increased sodium and chloride levels, diarrhoea and increased urination may occur during use. It is important to follow the dosage and infusion rate exactly and to have the electrolyte levels in the blood checked regularly.
