Area of application

The product is a concentrated solution of sodium chloride, also known as table salt, which is used to prepare or fortify infusion solutions.These solutions are introduced directly into the body via a venous drip and are used to supply sodium chloride.It is used in the following conditions: low sodium levels in the blood (hyponatremia), low chloride levels in the blood (hypochloremia) and excess fluid with a reduced concentration of salts in the blood (hypotonic hyperhydration).

The product contains 1.17 g sodium chloride, 20 mmol sodium ions and 20 mmol chloride ions.Water for injection purposes is included as an excipient.

Contraindications

The product must not be used if there is an increased sodium level in the blood (hypernatremia) and an increased chloride level in the blood (hyperchloremia).

Dosage

The application is carried out by medical professionals.The correct dose is determined by the doctor and based on the serum sodium level and the patient's body weight.The maximum daily dose depends on the need for correction and is 3-6 mmol sodium per kg body weight for adults and 3-5 mmol sodium per kg body weight for children.The infusion and drip rate is adjusted according to the patient's clinical condition.

If sodium concentration is chronically low, the product is administered at a low infusion rate to prevent brain damage.Hypertonic sodium chloride solutions should only be used in children and adolescents with symptomatic hyponatremia.Sodium chloride concentration should be increased slowly to prevent hypernatremia.

Overdose can lead to overhydration, increased sodium levels in the blood, increased chloride levels in the blood, increased salt concentrations in the blood and acid-base balance disorders.In the event of an overdose, stopping the infusion, administering diuretics and correcting electrolyte imbalances are necessary.

Intake

The product is administered as an intravenous infusion after being diluted in an appropriate carrier solution.

Patient information

Particular caution is required when using it in cases of low potassium levels in the blood, diseases that require restricted sodium intake, treatment with corticosteroids or ACTH and hyperacidity of the blood.Checks of blood electrolyte levels and water balance as well as acid-base status are necessary.The product has no influence on the ability to drive or use machines.
