Instructions for use for Panthenol eye ointment JENAPHARM®, 5 g
Panthenol eye ointment JENAPHARM®
Panthenol eye ointment JENAPHARM® is an ophthalmic medicine that is used to promote wound healing on the conjunctiva and cornea of the eye. This preparation supports the healing of injuries to the conjunctiva and calluses as well as the treatment of symptoms of dehydration. It is not suitable for curing infectious processes caused by bacteria, viruses or fungi, but only serves as an adjunct to specific treatment.
Areas of application
The eye ointment can be used for various eye diseases and injuries, including eyelid, conjunctival and corneal injuries, follow-up treatment of a viral infection of the cornea such as herpes corneae and corneal ulcer, preventive epithelial protection in cases of widening of the eyelid fissure with inability to close the eyelid (lagophthalmos) and lack of tear fluid and non-bacterial conjunctivitis.
Active ingredients and ingredients
The active ingredient in Panthenol eye ointment JENAPHARM® is dexpanthenol with a concentration of 50 mg per gram of ointment. The other ingredients are thick paraffin and white petroleum jelly.
Contraindications
This medicine must not be used if you are allergic to dexpanthenol or any of the other ingredients of this medicine. No prescription is required for this product.
Dosage
Always use this medicine exactly as described or exactly as discussed with your doctor or pharmacist.Place an approximately 1 cm long strand of ointment (corresponding to approximately 1 mg of dexpanthenol) into the lower conjunctival sac of the affected eye 3 to 4 times a day.To prevent recurrent corneal erosions, the eye ointment is only applied at night.
The duration of use depends on the severity of the clinical picture and the course of the disease.Due to the limited absorption capacity of the conjunctival sac, an overdose is practically impossible.Symptoms of poisoning are not to be expected if the eye ointment is accidentally ingested. If you forget to use it, continue treatment as prescribed.
Application
The eye ointment should be kept at room temperature so that it is pliable and can be dispensed more easily from the tube.Remove the eye ointment by gently squeezing the tube without kinking or rolling it up.Take the tube between your thumb and index finger and carefully approach it to your eye.Tilt your head back slightly, look upwards and pull away your lower eyelid with your index finger.Apply the recommended or prescribed amount of eye ointment to the conjunctival sac of the affected eye without letting the tip of the tube come into contact with the eye or the edge of the eyelid. After inserting the ointment, distribute it evenly by blinking your eyes several times and moving your eyeball.
Patient information
Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using the product.Contact lenses should not be worn while using this medicine. There are no data on use in children and adolescents.
Immediately after using the eye ointment, the ability to actively participate in road traffic, to work without a secure footing or to operate machines may be temporarily impaired due to blurred vision.During this time you should therefore not operate any machines, work without a secure footing and do not actively participate in road traffic.
Pregnancy
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine. If used correctly, the medicine can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. However, no more than 6 mg of dexpanthenol (1 cm of ointment strand corresponds to 1 mg of dexpanthenol) should be used daily.
