Instructions for use for HYLO GEL Eye drops, 10 ml
Area of application
Hylo-Gel eye drops are particularly suitable for chronically dry eyes and severe forms of dry eyes. The high hyaluronic acid content allows the highly viscous drops to adhere particularly well to the surface of the eye.Persistent and severe symptoms such as itching, foreign body sensation, red and burning eyes are relieved and the eye is permanently protected from irritation.Hylo-Gel eye drops support the healing process of the eyes after operations. With the practical COMOD® system, precise dosage is guaranteed.Hylo-Gel eye drops offer a high yield of at least 300 drops and a long shelf life of 6 months.Hylo-Gel eye drops are free of preservatives and phosphates and are therefore very well tolerated. The lubricating eye drops do not require a prescription, but can be prescribed. For certain indications (according to Appendix V Medicines Directive) they can be prescribed by a doctor.
Hylo-Gel eye drops form a tear film that intensifies therapeutic lubrication of the surface of the eye. They are also called “artificial tears.”Typical eye complaints include irritated eyes, dry eyes, burning eyes, itchy eyes, stressed eyes and tired eyes.
Mode of action
Hylo-Gel eye drops contain 0.2% hyaluronic acid, which makes them highly viscous and forms a stable protective film on the irritated surface of the eye.The conjunctiva and cornea are intensively and sustainably moisturized.Despite the gel-like consistency, vision is not affected.Hylo-Gel eye drops can also be used with hard and soft contact lenses.

HYLO GEL®: Long-lasting moisturization for chronically dry eyes
HYLO GEL® is tailored to the special needs of chronic dry eyes and severe forms of dry eyes.Due to the high hyaluronic acid content, the highly viscous drops adhere particularly well to the surface of the eye.Persistent and severe symptoms such as itching, foreign body sensation, red and burning eyes are relieved and the eye is permanently protected from irritation. In addition, HYLO GEL® eye drops are considered a good choice to support the healing process of the eyes after surgery. The practical COMOD® system guarantees precise dosage, high yield of at least 300 drops and a long shelf life of 6 months. HYLO GEL® eye drops are free of preservatives and phosphates and are therefore very well tolerated. HYLO GEL® moistening eye drops do not require a prescription, but can be prescribed. For certain indications (according to Appendix V Medicines Directive) they can be prescribed by a doctor.
Long-lasting eye lubrication thanks to highly concentrated hyaluronic acid
HYLO GEL® Eye drops contain hyaluronic acid, a substance that occurs naturally in some parts of the body and also in the eye.Due to the high content of 0.2% hyaluronic acid, HYLO GEL® is highly viscous and forms a stable protective film on the irritated surface of the eye.The conjunctiva and cornea are intensively and sustainably moisturized.Despite the gel-like consistency, vision is not affected. HYLO GEL® eye drops can also be used with hard and soft contact lenses.
Dry eyes
Dry eyes, the so-called Sicca syndrome, are one of the most common eye diseases.According to information from the professional association of ophthalmologists, every fifth adult in Germany is affected by it, and the trend is rising. One of the main causes is the increasing use of digital media on smartphones and tablets as well as intensive screen work in professional life.In addition, environmental influences such as drafts, air conditioning and fine dust pollution as well as certain illnesses, hormonal changes and age-related processes can cause various dry eye symptoms.
Surgical interventions on the eye
Operations can cause severe irritation and affect the supply of tears to the eye. After eye surgery, a stable tear film is particularly important because wounds can only heal well in a sufficiently moist environment. HYLO GEL® with highly concentrated and highly viscous hyaluronic acid has proven itself for postoperative care due to the intensive, strong moistening and long-lasting adhesion to the surface of the eye.Because they are free of preservatives and phosphates, they can be used safely after operations. The eye drops are also recommended for people who already suffer from dry eyes before the operation.
Coverage of costs by the health insurance company
HYLO GEL® is the first medical product for eye lubrication that can be prescribed in Germany. If treatment is necessary, the costs can in certain cases be reimbursed by statutory health insurance companies. The moistening eye drops can be prescribed by the doctor in accordance with Appendix V of the Medicines Directive in the event of the absence or damage of the tear gland, various autoimmune diseases, paralysis of the facial nerves (facial palsy) and incomplete eyelid closure (lagophthalmos).
Frequently Asked Questions & Answers
How often should I use HYLO GEL® eye drops daily? HYLO GEL® eye drops offer intensive and long-lasting moisturization for severe and chronic forms of dry eyes.Dose the eye drops individually according to your condition or the recommendations of your ophthalmologist. In general, 1 drop of HYLO GEL® is dripped into the conjunctival sac of each eye 3 times a day.If the symptoms are more severe, the eye drops can be used more often during the day.If you use HYLO GEL® in addition to another drug treatment with eye drops, please keep the application interval at least 30 minutes apart. HYLO GEL® should be administered last in this case.If you also use an eye ointment, rub it into the conjunctival sac after using HYLO GEL®.
What do I have to pay attention to when I use HYLO GEL® with contact lenses? HYLO GEL® is also compatible with contact lenses. After inserting the visual aids, it is recommended to wait about 30 minutes before using the moistening eye drops. In this way, possible intolerance reactions due to interactions between contact lens care products and HYLO GEL® can be avoided.Due to the gel-like consistency of the eye drops, a short-term streaking may occur immediately after instillation. This generally disappears after a few blinks.
How can I ensure that my eyes are sufficiently moistened overnight? HYLO GEL® uses highly viscous hyaluronic acid to ensure particularly good adhesion to the surface of the eye and a long-lasting moisturizing effect into the night. If you suffer from severe symptoms of dry eyes, especially at night, the use of the eye drops can be supplemented with an overnight moisturizing eye ointment such as HYLO NIGHT®.The ointment with vitamin A spreads well over the surface of the eye and improves the tear film.
What are the benefits of eye drops without preservatives?Preservatives are used in many preparations to prevent pathogenic germs from getting into the eyes.If eye drops cannot be kept sterile, bacteria and fungi can easily colonize, which can get into the eye when used and cause infections. However, the preservatives often cannot offer complete protection against germs and can also cause intolerance reactions. With HYLO GEL® - as with all other eye drops in the HYLO® product family - preservatives are deliberately avoided. This is made possible by the unique COMOD® system, which keeps the liquid sterile and hermetically sealed. The eye drops have a shelf life of 6 months after opening, even without preservatives.Avoiding the use of preservatives pays off in two ways: HYLO® eye drops are particularly well tolerated. In addition, only medical products that are preservative-free are suitable for postoperative care, as otherwise proper wound healing will be delayed.

Ingredients
Ingredient per 1 ml drop: 2 mg hyaluronic acid, sodium salt.Other ingredients: Citric acid, sodium citrate, sorbitol, water for injections.
What are Hylo-Gel eye drops for?
After long days at the office, your eyes sometimes feel dry and itchy. But a foreign body sensation or red eyes are also typical signs of the so-called “office eye syndrome”.The reason for this is insufficient moisture on the surface of the eye.It can also have other causes, such as previous operations.Whenever a strong or chronic feeling of dryness occurs, Hylo-Gel eye drops can provide relief. They provide intensive, therapeutic moistening of the surface of the eye and thus restore well-being.No prescription is required for this product.
How do Hylo-Gel eye drops work?
The Hylo-Gel eye drops contain sodium hyaluronate, anhydrous citric acid, sodium citrate, sorbitol and water. This composition noticeably moisturizes the surface of the eye and allows feelings of dryness or other of the symptoms mentioned to disappear quickly. The sodium salt of hyaluronic acid ensures a particularly long-lasting effect: the film of moisture adheres to the eye for a long time and thus relieves the symptoms for many hours. At the same time, the cornea and conjunctiva are cared for and eye irritation is reduced. This allows the eye to regenerate more quickly and produce a sufficient film of moisture on its own. Therefore, the eye drops also support healing after operations or injuries to the eye.
How do you use Hylo-Gel eye drops correctly?
Remove the cap and invert the bottle before first use.Apply some pressure to the bottom of the bottle until the first drop comes out.You can then carefully put 1 drop into the eye without direct contact with the eyes or facial skin.To do this, gently pull the lower eyelid away from your eye with your free hand and close your eyes slowly after application so that the liquid can distribute optimally. Also follow the instructions in the package leaflet and only use the same bottle for 1 person.
What are the contraindications?
Since Hylo-Gel eye drops do not contain any preservatives, they are well tolerated by most people and can be used long-term.If you still experience a hypersensitivity reaction, stop using it.However, temporary blurry vision immediately after use is completely normal and harmless. It is also necessary to consult a doctor if you are taking other medication for your eyes.
Can Hylo-Gel eye drops be used with contact lenses?
Check with an ophthalmologist to see whether wearing contact lenses is recommended despite your symptoms. If so, you can easily combine this with the eye drops and thereby relieve symptoms such as dry eyes. This applies equally to hard and soft contact lenses.
What about its use in children and during pregnancy?
The Hylo-Gel eye drops can also be used by pregnant and breastfeeding women. It is also considered safe to use on children. If in doubt, seek medical advice. This is also important if the symptoms are very severe or if there is no sufficient improvement.
