Active ingredients and composition

The active ingredients are sodium monohydrogen phosphate dodecahydrate and sodium dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate.20 ml of the concentrate for preparing an infusion solution contains sodium monohydrogen phosphate dodecahydrate (Ph.Eur.) 3.050 g and sodium dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate (Ph.Eur.) 0.462 g.1 ml contains 1 mmol Na+ and 0.6 mmol PO43.The other ingredient is water for injections.

Application and dosage

Sodium phosphate brown is a concentrated solution of sodium phosphate for the intravenous administration of phosphate.It is administered by a doctor or healthcare professional.The dosage depends on the need for correction, with the average requirement of an intensive care patient being approx. 50 - 70 mmol phosphate per day.The maximum infusion rate should not exceed 20 mmol phosphate per hour.The concentrate is diluted in a suitable carrier solution before administration.

Contraindications and precautions

Sodium phosphate brown must not be used if there is an increased phosphate level in the blood, an increased sodium level in the blood, a low calcium level in the blood or disorders of kidney function.Particular caution is required in diseases that require restricted sodium intake, such as heart failure, fluid accumulation in the tissues, high blood pressure and severe kidney dysfunction.Checks of the serum ionogram are necessary, and if high phosphate intakes are present, regular checks of calcium and phosphate in the blood are necessary.

Side effects

Like all medicines, sodium phosphate brown can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them.Possible side effects include increased sodium levels in the blood.If you notice any side effects, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Storage

Keep medicines out of the reach of children.You must not use the medicine after the expiry date stated on the carton or container.This medicine does not require any special storage conditions.The medicine must not be disposed of in wastewater or household waste.Ask your pharmacist how to throw away medicine if you no longer need it.
