Ringer's solution Bernburg is an infusion solution that is used for fluid and electrolyte replacement.It is available in PE-bottles and is manufactured by Burg Pharma GmbH.No prescription is required for this product.

Areas of application

Ringer's solution Bernburg is used for fluid and electrolyte replacement in hypochloremic alkalosis or chloride losses, as short-term intravascular volume replacement, in isotonic and hypotonic dehydration and as a carrier solution for compatible electrolyte concentrates and medications.

Active ingredients

The infusion solution contains the active ingredients sodium chloride, potassium chloride and calcium chloride dihydrate.1000 ml of the solution contains 8.60 g sodium chloride, 0.30 g potassium chloride and 0.33 g calcium chloride dihydrate.The other ingredient is water for injections.The solution is sterile and pyrogen-free.

Contraindications

Ringer's solution Bernburg should not be used in cases of overhydration (hyperhydration).

Precautions for use

Particular caution is required in the case of increased potassium content in the blood (hyperkalemia), increased sodium content in the blood (hypernatremia), increased chloride content in the blood (hyperchloremia), diseases that require restrictive sodium intake, and in patients with renal insufficiency who are prone to increased potassium content in the blood.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

There are no concerns about use during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Interactions with other medicines

Interactions are not known.Due to the calcium content, incompatibilities may arise with solutions containing inorganic phosphate or carbonate.With regard to further intolerances, the information in the package inserts for the medicines to be mixed should be observed.

Warnings

Electrolyte and fluid status checks are required.When treating hypertonic dehydration, rapid infusion should be avoided to prevent an increase in plasma osmolarity and plasma sodium concentration.

Dosage

The dosage depends on the need for fluids and electrolytes.The maximum infusion rate and the maximum daily dose result from the patient's fluid and electrolyte requirements.A fluid intake of 40 ml/kg body mass per day should not be exceeded in adults.

Advice in case of overdose

Overdose can lead to overhydration, electrolyte disturbances, hyperosmolarity and the induction of acidotic metabolism.Therapy includes interruption of the supply of the solution, accelerated elimination via the kidneys and a reduced supply of the corresponding electrolytes.

When used as directed, no side effects are to be expected.

For technical reasons, the polyethylene vial contains a residual volume of air.Pressure infusions with the plastic infusion bottle may therefore only be carried out under controlled conditions, otherwise there is a risk of an air embolism.
