Three quarters of all women suffer from a vaginal yeast infection at least once in their lives.In around 9% of women, vaginal yeast infections even occur recurrently.

What is a vaginal yeast infection or vaginal mycosis?

Numerous organs can become affected by a fungal infection, also known as mycosis.A vaginal yeast infection is an infection of the vagina and/or labia.An antifungal drug is used for treatment.This is necessary because the body cannot eliminate a fungal infection on its own.

How does a vaginal yeast infection occur?

In most cases, a vaginal yeast infection is caused by the yeast “Candida albicans”.Yeast fungi settle in small numbers on mucous membranes, e.g. in the oral cavity, intestines or vagina, and generally do not cause disease.However, if the vaginal environment is out of balance, the fungi can multiply excessively and this can lead to infection.

The most common triggers are: hormonal changes during puberty, pregnancy or menopause, weak immune systems due to stress or infections, changed vaginal flora after taking an antibiotic.

Typical symptoms of a vaginal yeast infection are: severe itching or burning in the area of the external pubic area and the entrance to the vagina, increased whitish-greyish, crumbly discharge, redness and swelling of the affected tissue.

Mode of action

Mykofungin 3 resolves the symptoms quickly, reliably and sustainably.The active ingredient clotrimazole inhibits the growth and reproduction of fungi and kills the fungal cells.It is well tolerated because it primarily works on the fungal cell membrane, which is different from the human cell membrane.The unpleasant symptoms usually disappear within a few days.For long-term therapeutic success, treatment should be continued until the symptoms have completely subsided, but not without medical supervision.

Mykofungin 3 contains: 20 mg clotrimazole, (RS)-2-octyldodecan-1-ol excipient, cetyl palmitate excipient, cetostearyl alcohol excipient, polysorbate 60 excipient, sorbitan stearate excipient, water, purified excipient, benzyl alcohol excipient.

Contraindications

The medicine must not be used if you are hypersensitive (allergic) to clotrimazole or any of the other ingredients.

Dosage

Recommended use of Mykofungin 3: For insertion into the vagina.Unless otherwise prescribed, insert an applicator filling (approx. 5 g vaginal cream corresponding to 0.1 g clotrimazole) into the vagina as deeply as possible and empty it once a day for 3 consecutive days in the evening.The vaginal cream is best emptied as deeply as possible into the vagina while lying on your back with your legs slightly drawn up.A new applicator must be used for each application.

If there is a simultaneous infection of the labia and adjacent areas or if there is a doctor-diagnosed inflammation of the partner's glans and foreskin/the partner's vagina and vulva due to yeast fungi, additional local treatment of the affected areas should be carried out using suitable forms of application.To avoid possible reinfection, your partner should be examined by a doctor at the same time.

If necessary, the treatment can be repeated.However, recurring infections may be signs of an underlying illness that require medical attention.The treatment should preferably not be carried out during menstruation or should be completed before it begins.During and until two days after the treatment, protected sexual intercourse should only take place with a condom.To reduce the risk of ascending infection, the patient must be informed that hands must be washed thoroughly before insertion/application.For problem patients, therapy should be carried out by the doctor.

In general, symptoms of vaginal mycosis (such as itching, discharge, burning) decrease significantly within the first four days after starting treatment.If symptoms do not subside completely after treatment or if they worsen, you should see a doctor.

Intake

The vaginal cream is emptied as deeply as possible into the vagina, preferably lying on your back with your legs slightly drawn up.The treatment should preferably not be carried out during menstruation or should be completed before it begins.

Patient information

Particular care is required when using the vaginal cream if you only use the vaginal cream as prescribed by a doctor if you are suffering from a yeast infection for the first time, as discharge and inflammation of the vagina can have various causes.In principle, these can only be diagnosed by a doctor.If the disease has occurred more than 4 times in the past 12 months.

No special precautions are required.

Pregnancy

Before taking/using any medicines, ask your doctor or pharmacy for advice.For reasons of caution, you may only use the vaginal cream during pregnancy after an appropriate benefit/risk assessment by your treating doctor.During pregnancy, treatment with vaginal cream should be carried out by a doctor or with vaginal tablets without an applicator.If you are breastfeeding, you can use the vaginal cream as directed by your doctor.

Notes

The treatment should preferably not be carried out during menstruation or should be completed before it begins.During treatment, you should only use intimate hygiene products after consulting your doctor, as a reduction in the effectiveness of the drug cannot be ruled out.If the partner's labia and adjacent areas are simultaneously infected or the glans and foreskin are inflamed due to a fungal infection, the partner should receive additional local treatment using the forms of application intended for this purpose.

Candida albicans is a fungus that can be found on the skin and, in many women, in the vagina.Only when there is excessive reproduction does a fungal disease (mycosis) arise, which is usually noticeable through redness, burning, itching, discharge and painful inflammation.A reliable diagnosis is only possible by a gynecologist.If you forget to use it, only use the normal daily amount the next time you use it.If you forget several times, consult a doctor.
