One in three adults in Germany suffers from diarrhea at least once a year.Lopedium® T akut contains the active ingredient loperamide, which reduces intestinal movement and thus extends the intestinal transit time.This allows water and salts to be absorbed better, which improves the quality of the stool.The product is suitable for adults and children aged 12 and over.No prescription is required for this product.

Area of application

Lopedium® T acute is a remedy for diarrhea.It is used for the symptomatic treatment of acute diarrhea in adults and adolescents aged 12 and over if no causal therapy is available.Treatment with loperamide for longer than two days may only be carried out under a doctor's prescription and follow-up.

Mode of action

The active ingredient loperamide in Lopedium® T akut in acute diarrhea inhibits intestinal movement and thus ensures that intestinal activity is normalized.It also reduces water loss from irritated intestinal cells and increases the absorption of fluid from the intestines, which leads to normalization of stools.

Lopedium® T akut for acute diarrhea contains the active ingredient loperamide hydrochloride.One tablet contains 2 mg of loperamide hydrochloride.Other ingredients include lactose monohydrate, corn starch, talc, magnesium distearate, gelatin, titanium dioxide, indigo carmine, iron (III) oxide hydrate, iron(II,III) oxide and patent blue V.

Contraindications

Lopedium® T acute for acute diarrhea should not be used in cases of known hypersensitivity to one of the ingredients, in children under 12 years of age, in conditions in which a slowing of intestinal activity must be avoided (e.g. constipation and intestinal obstruction), in cases of diarrhea with blood in the stool and fever, in cases of diarrhea that occurs during or after taking antibiotics, in chronic diarrheal diseases, in inflammation of the colon, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Dosage

The recommended dose when starting treatment for acute diarrhea is the first dose.The repeat dose should then be taken after each unformed stool.The recommended maximum daily dose must not be exceeded.For young people aged 12 and over, the first dose is 1 tablet and the repeat dose is also 1 tablet, with the maximum daily dose not exceeding 4 tablets.For adults, the first dose is 2 tablets and the repeat dose is 1 tablet, with the maximum daily dose not exceeding 6 tablets.The medicine should not be taken for more than two days without medical advice.If diarrhea persists after two days of treatment, the medicine must be stopped and a doctor consulted.

Intake

The tablets should be swallowed whole with sufficient liquid, preferably a glass of water.

Patient information

Lopedium® T akut must not be used in children under 2 years of age if they have acute diarrhea.Children between the ages of 2 and 12 may only be treated with medicines containing loperamide as prescribed by a doctor.In AIDS-patients, the intake should be stopped and a doctor consulted at the first signs of a distended abdomen.If you have liver disease, you should consult a doctor before taking it.It is important to ensure adequate fluid and salt replacement, especially in children.The recommended dosage and duration of use of two days must not be exceeded to avoid severe constipation.In the event of diarrhea or as a result of taking the medicine, tiredness, dizziness and sleepiness may occur, so caution is advised when driving or working with machines.

Pregnancy

Since there is no experience with its use in pregnant women and the active ingredient passes into breast milk, it should not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding.Before taking any medicines, ask your doctor or pharmacy for advice.

Notes

The duration of use of Lopedium® T acute for acute diarrhea should be a maximum of two days.If the diarrhea persists, you should see a doctor.Particular attention must be paid to replacing fluids and electrolytes in children.The medicine should be kept out of the reach of children.

Other

Treatment with the drug for longer than two days may only take place under a doctor's prescription and follow-up monitoring.The recommended amount and the duration of use of two days must not be exceeded to avoid severe constipation. Diarrhea can result in large losses of fluid and salt, so adequate fluid and salt replacement is important, especially in children.The medicine is not suitable for children under 12 years of age for self-treatment.Other medicines are available for this as prescribed by a doctor.
