Nephrotrans 840 mg enteric-coated capsules contain the active substance sodium hydrogen carbonate and are used for the treatment of metabolic acidosis of the blood and for the maintenance treatment of chronic renal insufficiency. The dosage depends on the severity of the acidosis and is usually 4 to 6 capsules per day. The capsules should be taken unchewed with some liquid at mealtimes. It is not recommended for children and adolescents. In case of an overdose, symptoms such as muscle weakness and shallow breathing may occur. Double intake should be avoided and the doctor should be informed in case of forgotten intake. Storage should be at a temperature below 25°C and the expiry date should be observed. The medicine also contains other excipients and active ingredients. Side effects may include flatulence, abdominal pain, kidney stone formation, allergic reactions and muscle cramp-like pain. Contraindications are hypersensitivity to the ingredients, shift in acid-base balance, potassium deficiency and elevated sodium levels.
