Directions for use of the article Phosphonorm Hartkapseln: - Active substance: aluminium chloride hydroxide complex (9:8:19) 23 H2O. - Indications: To reduce phosphate absorption from the intestine in patients with renal insufficiency and elevated serum phosphate levels, especially in patients on dialysis programme. - Dosage: 3-6 hard capsules (900 mg - 1800 mg aluminium chloride hydroxide complex) per day, depending on the serum phosphate level. Children over the age of three should be given a lower dosage according to their body weight. The capsules should be taken with sufficient liquid at mealtimes. - Duration of use: As long as an elevated serum phosphate level requires the prescription of Phosphonorm. - Contraindications: Not suitable for people with hypersensitivity to the active substance or other components of the preparation, in hypophosphataemia, faecal constipation, stenosis of the large intestine, infants and children up to the age of three and during pregnancy. - Special advice: Regular checks of aluminium blood levels and phosphate levels are required. No studies are available on the effects on the ability to drive and operate machinery.
