Area of application

Nephrotrans 840 mg gastro-resistant capsules is a treatment for metabolic acidification of the blood, also called metabolic acidosis.It is also used for maintenance therapy to prevent the recurrence of metabolic acidosis in chronic renal failure.Patients with a blood pH below 7.2 require correction of hyperacidity by infusion.

Each capsule contains 840 mg of sodium bicarbonate as the active ingredient.The following ingredients are also included: 229.87 mg sodium ion, 610.13 mg hydrogen carbonate ion and 3-sn-phosphatidylcholine from soybeans.Excipients include iron(II,III) oxide, Eudragit L 100-55, gelatin, glycerol 85%, glycerol monostearate, hypromellose, macrogol, sodium dodecyl sulfate, polysorbate 80, propylene glycol, refined rapeseed oil, hydrochloric acid 25%, partially hydrogenated soybean oil, hydrogenated soybean oil, sorbitol solution, talc, yellow waxand purified water included.The total sodium ion content is 230 mg, which corresponds to 10 mmol.

Contraindications

The medicine must not be taken if you are allergic to sodium bicarbonate, soy, peanuts or any of the other ingredients.It is also contraindicated if the alkali level in the blood is too high (metabolic alkalosis), the potassium level is too low (hypokalemia) or the sodium level is too high (hypernatremia).In addition, the preparation must not be taken by children under 14 years of age.

Dosage

Always take the medicine exactly as your doctor has told you.The usual recommended dose is between 3.4 and 5 g of sodium bicarbonate per day, which is equivalent to 4 to 6 soft capsules.The dose may be adjusted depending on blood levels and severity of acidosis.If the blood pH is below 7.2, an infusion is more suitable.Prolonged use without medical supervision should be avoided as high levels of sodium or low acidity in the blood (alkalosis) may occur.

Intake

The soft capsules should be taken whole with a little liquid throughout the day.Chewing or opening the capsules should be avoided as this destroys the gastric juice resistance.Prolonged use without medical supervision is not recommended.

Patient information

Before taking the product, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.The effect of the drug is initially monitored every one to two weeks, especially at higher doses.Regular checks of electrolyte levels in the blood plasma, especially sodium, potassium and calcium, are necessary.Particular caution is required if breathing is shallow, calcium levels are low or salt levels are high in the blood.Children and adolescents under 14 years of age are not allowed to take the product.

Before taking this medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice if you are pregnant, breast-feeding or planning to become pregnant.There are no studies on taking this medicine during pregnancy and breastfeeding.It should only be taken after consulting your doctor.
