Basodexan ointment is used for the supportive treatment of fish scale disease (ichthyosis) and for the follow-up treatment of skin diseases that have subsided, such as dry eczema and psoriasis. It is also suitable for the treatment of skin diseases associated with dehydration of the skin, such as exsiccation eczema. The medicine contains the active ingredient urea, which moisturises the skin and softens the top layer of skin to make it softer and more supple. It is recommended that the ointment be applied thinly to the affected areas of the skin twice a day and spread evenly. Overdosage may cause skin irritation. A doctor should be consulted before use, especially in the case of impaired kidney function, acute skin inflammations or when used on children. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before use. There are some contraindications to the use of Basodexan ointment, for example hypersensitivity to the ingredients. In rare cases, redness, itching or contact allergic reactions may occur. The medicine should be kept out of the reach of children and used for six months after opening.
