Basodexan ointment

Basodexan ointment is a urea preparation that is used externally on the skin.It is used to treat various dry skin conditions and protects the skin from drying out.The ointment contains urea as an active ingredient that maintains skin moisture and strengthens the skin barrier.

Areas of application

Basodexan ointment is used to support the treatment of fish scale disease (ichthyosis).It is also suitable for the follow-up treatment of skin diseases that have largely subsided, such as dry eczema and psoriasis.It is also used to treat skin diseases that are associated with drying of the skin, such as exsiccation eczema.

Active ingredients and ingredients

The active ingredient in Basodexan ointment is urea.Each gram of the ointment contains 100 mg of urea.The other ingredients include white petrolatum, corn starch, octyldodecanol, glycerol tridocosanoate, palmitic acid, sorbitan laurate and poly(oxyethylene)-25-hydrogenated castor oil.

Contraindications

Basodexan ointment must not be used if you are hypersensitive (allergic) to urea or any of the other ingredients of the medicine.

Dosage and application

Always use Basodexan ointment exactly as described or after consulting your doctor or pharmacist.Apply the ointment thinly to the skin twice a day and rub it evenly.The duration of use depends on the clinical picture and is determined individually by the doctor.As a rule, a treatment period of two to four weeks is required.

Patient information

Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using Basodexan ointment.Be particularly careful when using the medicine near eyes and mucous membranes.Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes.Do not use the ointment for acute skin inflammations with injured skin surfaces and not on large areas if you suffer from impaired kidney function.

There is no reliable experience with the use of the product in children.Reports from the specialist literature indicate that the use of highly concentrated products containing urea in children can lead to a mostly short-term burning sensation on the skin.Consult your doctor before using the ointment on children.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.There are no known risks when using Basodexan ointment during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Notes

The release of other active ingredients from topical preparations and their absorption into the skin can be enhanced by urea.This is particularly known from corticosteroids, dithranol and fluorouracil.
