Basodexan ointment

The ointment is used to treat various dry skin diseases.The urea it contains protects the skin from drying out.No prescription is required for this product.

Areas of application

The ointment is used to support the treatment of fish scale disease (ichthyosis).It is also suitable for the follow-up treatment of skin diseases that have largely subsided, such as dry eczema or psoriasis.It is also used to treat skin diseases that are associated with drying of the skin, such as exsiccation eczema.

Active ingredients and ingredients

The active ingredient in the ointment is urea.Other ingredients include (RS)-2-octyldodecan-1-ol, corn starch, palmitic acid, PEG-25 castor oil (hydrogenated), sorbitan laurate, tribehenin, white petrolatum and butylated hydroxytoluene.

Application and dosage

The recommended dose is a thin layer of the ointment applied evenly to the skin and rubbed in twice daily.The duration of use depends on the clinical picture and is determined individually by the doctor.As a rule, a treatment period of two to four weeks is required.

Contraindications

The preparation must not be used if you are hypersensitive (allergic) to urea or any of the other ingredients of the drug.

Patient information

Particular caution is required when using the product near eyes and mucous membranes.The medicine should not come into contact with eyes and mucous membranes.It should not be used in acute skin inflammation with injured skin surface or over large areas with impaired kidney function.There is no reliable experience with the use of the product in children.Reports from the specialist literature indicate that the use of highly concentrated products containing urea in children can lead to a mostly short-term burning sensation on the skin.Please consult your doctor before using the product on children.

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.There are no known risks when using the product during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Notes

The release of other active ingredients from the drug and their penetration into the skin can be enhanced by urea.This is particularly known from drugs containing cortisone, dithranol and fluorouracil.
