Area of application

The mineral preparation is used to bind phosphate contained in food and thus reduce the absorption of phosphate into the body.It is used to treat and prevent elevated phosphate levels in patients with severe kidney disease who require dialysis.

The preparation contains 700 mg of calcium diacetate, which corresponds to 177.4 mg of calcium ions.The following excipients are also included: microcrystalline cellulose, crospovidone, hypromellose, macrogol 6000, vegetable magnesium stearate, povidone K30, 3.4 mg sucrose and talc.

Contraindications

The medicine must not be taken if there is an increased calcium concentration in the blood or if you are allergic to calcium acetate or one of the other ingredients.

Dosage

It should be taken exactly as directed by your doctor.Adults usually start with 2 film-coated tablets three times a day.The dosage depends on the phosphate concentration in the blood and should be checked regularly.The usual dose is 2 film-coated tablets four times a day or 3 film-coated tablets three times a day, although the maximum dose of 9 tablets per day should not be exceeded.The treatment is long-term therapy and requires regular medical supervision.

There are no data on use for children and adolescents under 18 years of age, so its use is not recommended.

Overdose can lead to a high calcium concentration in the blood and tissue calcification.Symptoms can include muscle weakness, abdominal pain, constipation, nausea, vomiting, intense thirst, cardiac arrhythmias and loss of consciousness.In the event of an overdose, a doctor should be contacted immediately.

If a dose is missed, the next dose should be taken as usual without taking the missed dose.The intake must not be stopped without consulting your doctor.

Intake

The film-coated tablets should be taken whole with a little liquid with meals to achieve the best effect.

During pregnancy or breastfeeding, the medicine should only be taken on the express instructions of the doctor and with regular monitoring of serum calcium levels.There are no data on use during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
