Isotonic saline solution Fresenius is a potassium-free 0.9% sodium chloride solution for infusion.It serves as a plasma-isotonic fluid replacement in cases of loss of body fluid due to hypotonic dehydration, i.e. water loss with increased salt loss, as well as in isotonic dehydration, in which water and salt loss occur in equal proportions.The solution can also be used as a short-term intravascular volume replacement, as a carrier solution for electrolyte concentrates and compatible medications, and for moistening dressings.No prescription is required for this product.

1000 ml of the infusion solution contains 9.0 g sodium chloride.Other ingredients include sodium hydroxide for pH adjustment, hydrochloric acid for pH adjustment and water for injection purposes.

Area of application

This solution is used as a plasma isotonic fluid replacement for various forms of dehydration.It can also be used as a short-term volume replacement, medication carrier and to moisten dressings.If you do not feel better or even feel worse after using it, you should consult a doctor.

Contraindications

The medicine must not be used if you are hypersensitive to sodium chloride or any of the other ingredients or suffer from overhydration (hyperhydration states).

Dosage

The dosage depends on fluid and electrolyte needs.The recommended amount is about 40 ml per kilogram of body weight per day, which corresponds to approximately 6 mmol sodium per kilogram of body weight per day.The maximum daily dose for adults is 3 to 6 mmol of sodium per kilogram of body weight per day.For children, the guideline value is 3 to 5 mmol of sodium per kilogram of body weight per day.The rate of infusion depends on the clinical situation.

Intake

The medicine is administered intravenously.It can also be used to prepare injection or infusion preparations, with the dosage, duration of use and routes of administration following the instructions for the diluted or dissolved drug.

Patient information

Particular caution should be exercised in the case of low blood potassium levels, increased blood sodium or chloride levels, and in conditions requiring restricted sodium intake, such as heart failure, tissue swelling, pulmonary edema, hypertension, renal insufficiency and eclampsia.Depending on the volume administered and the patient's condition, checks of electrolyte and fluid status may be necessary.The medicine is suitable for adults and children and has no influence on the ability to drive or use machines.
