Instructions for use for MEDIHONEY antibacterial medicinal honey, 5X20 g
Area of application
Medihoney Antibacterial Medical Honey is a preparation for external use on chronic and acute wounds. These include deep wounds, wounds with fistula tracts, necrotic wounds, infected wounds, surgical wounds and foul-smelling wounds. No prescription is required for this product.
Mode of action
Medihoney Antibacterial Medical Honey works through its high osmotic potential. This promotes the formation of wound secretion, which flushes bacteria, endotoxins and dead tissue from the wound and removes them when the dressing is changed. The honey also creates an antibacterial environment and supports the formation of a moist wound environment, which reduces pain when changing dressings.
Active ingredients / ingredients / ingredients
The honey in Medihoney consists of a blend of different honeys that have been individually tested for their antibacterial activity. The mixture contains honeys, which, in addition to osmotic effects, also have an antibacterial effect, both dependent and independent of peroxide. One of the honeys used is Leptospermum honey, also known as “Australian tea tree”.This shrub should not be confused with the tea tree, from which tea tree oil is extracted.
The wound gel consists of 80% honey mixture and also contains vegetable fats that give the product a tougher consistency. This means that the gel does not run so easily when applied and forms a delicate film on the surface of the wound, which keeps the wound moist and provides an additional barrier to germs.
Contraindications
Medihoney Antibacterial Medical Honey should not be used if you are known to be hypersensitive to any of the ingredients.
Dosage
Medihoney Antibacterial Medical Honey can be applied directly to the wound base. For deeper wounds, a suitable dressing material can be soaked in the honey.Make sure the honey is in complete contact with the wound base, approximately 3 mm thick.Suitable wound dressings that manage wound secretions should be used for coverage.Depending on the wound secretion, the honey can be left on the wound for up to 7 days.
Notes
The gel should not be placed in wound pockets or fistulas as the film formed there is more difficult to remove. The product is suitable for diabetics as it does not significantly affect blood sugar. However, blood sugar should be monitored more closely in large wounds.
