Medihoney Antibacterial Medicinal Honey is a preparation for the treatment of chronic and acute wounds. It contains a mixture of different honeys with antibacterial activity, which have been individually tested for their effectiveness. This honey mixture has an osmotic, peroxide-dependent and -independent antibacterial effect. The medicinal honey consists of 100% of this mixture. Medihoney has been specially filtered to remove any pollen it may contain. Medihoney Wound Gel also contains vegetable fats to give the product a more viscous consistency and prevent it from running when applied to the wound. It also forms a film on the wound surface, which keeps the wound moist and provides an additional germ barrier. However, the gel cannot be used in wound pockets or fistulas, as this cuticle cannot be easily removed there. In such cases, it is recommended to use the pure honey mixture. Medihoney products are also suitable for diabetics and have no significant effect on blood sugar. However, it is recommended to monitor blood sugar when treating diabetics. Medihoney Wound Gel is used for topical application on various types of wounds, such as deep wounds, wounds with fistula tracts, necrotic wounds, infected wounds, surgical wounds and foul-smelling wounds. The mode of action of Medihoney Antibacterial Medicinal Honey is based on its high osmotic potential, which promotes exudate formation and removes bacterial and necrotic tissue from the wound. It also creates an antibacterial environment. Medihoney contains manuka honey, medicinal, as the active ingredient. The product should not be used in cases of known hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients. The dosage and application of Medihoney Antibacterial Medicinal Honey varies depending on the type of wound. It can be applied directly to the wound bed or a suitable dressing material can be soaked with it. It is important that the honey is in complete contact with the wound bed (approximately 3 mm layer thickness). A suitable wound dressing is recommended to cover the honey for exudate management.
