Areas of application

The NaCl 0.9% B. Braun rinsing solution is used in various medical areas.It is suitable for rinsing and cleaning during surgical procedures, for rinsing wounds and burns and for moistening wound packs, cloths and bandages.It can also be used for rinsing and cleaning urinary catheters and in ostomy care.Rinsing and cleaning instruments and accessories is also one of their areas of application.The solution is suitable for intra- and postoperative irrigation, especially during endoscopic procedures without high-frequency current and after transurethral resections.It can also be used to fill breathing air humidification devices, for mechanical eye rinsing and for nasal rinsing.

Composition

The NaCl 0.9% B. Braun rinsing solution is sterile and endotoxin-free.1000 ml of the solution contains 9.00 g of sodium chloride, dissolved in aqua ad iniectabilia.The electrolyte concentrations are 154 mmol/l sodium (Na+) and 154 mmol/l chloride (Cl-).

Dosage

The amount of liquid required depends on the respective situation and the area of application.

Overdose

In the event of an overdose during wound irrigation and intraoperative use, absorption of irrigation fluid can occur, which can lead to hypervolemia in the sense of hypotonic hyperhydration (hyponatremia).Symptoms of hyperhydration include headache, nausea, restlessness and disorientation.In severe cases, coma-like conditions can occur.

Countermeasures in case of overdose

In the event of an overdose, rinsing should be stopped and the water and electrolyte balance corrected according to the clinical situation.

Warnings and precautions

The solution must not be used for infusion.It should only be used if the closure is unbroken and the solution appears clear.Opened containers must not be stored; remaining quantities must be discarded.Reuse of single-use devices poses a potential risk to the patient or user and may result in contamination and/or impairment of functionality.This can result in injury, illness or even death to the patient.The solution should be kept out of the reach of children.If there is a risk of absorbing large amounts of solution, as may be the case when used in large body cavities or on large wounds, the solution should not be used in patients in a state of hyperhydration.Caution is advised in hypertonic dehydration, hypokalemia, hypernatremia, hyperchloremia and conditions in which restricted sodium intake is indicated, such as heart failure, generalized edema, pulmonary edema, hypertension, eclampsia and severe renal insufficiency.The solution must not be used for intrathecal irrigation procedures.

Undesirable side effects

So far, no undesirable side effects are known.

Expiry date

The solution must not be used after the expiry date stated on the label.
