Blemaren N effervescent tablets are used to alkalise the urine in uric acid stone disease with or without concomitant calcium stones and for metaphylaxis in calcium stones. It contains the active ingredients citric acid, sodium citrate and potassium hydrogen carbonate. The recommended dose varies depending on the pH of the urine. It should always be taken exactly as directed and the pH should be checked regularly. The duration of use and dosage is determined individually by the doctor. Blemaren N is contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity to the ingredients, impaired kidney function, urinary tract infections with urea-cleaving bacteria, metabolic alkalosis and a rare hereditary disease with increased potassium levels. Children under 12 years of age should not take the medicine. Before taking it, the cause of the stone formation should be analysed carefully. Uric acid stones can be dissolved with Blemaren N and new formation prevented, while calcium stones cannot be dissolved with medication. To prevent new stone formation, sufficient fluid should be supplied, a healthy diet with reduced animal protein should be eaten and regular physical activity should take place.
