Area of application

Blemaren N effervescent tablets are a urological medication that is used to alkalinize the urine in cases of uric acid stone disease, with or without concurrent calcium stones.It is also used for metaphylaxis in calcium stones, to prevent the formation of new stones or to inhibit the growth of existing stone fragments.No prescription is required for this product.

Active ingredients / ingredients / ingredients

Each Blemaren N effervescent tablet contains the following active ingredients: citric acid (1197.0 mg), sodium citrate (835.5 mg) and potassium hydrogen carbonate (967.5 mg).Other ingredients include lactose monohydrate, mannitol, lemon flavor, saccharin sodium 2 H2O, adipic acid and macrogol 600.

Contraindications

The medicine must not be taken if you are hypersensitive to any of the active ingredients or other ingredients.Its use is also contraindicated in cases of impaired kidney function, urinary tract infections with urea-splitting bacteria, metabolic alkalosis or a rare hereditary disease with increased potassium levels (Adynamia episodica hereditaria).Children under 12 years of age should not take the medicine as there is no sufficient experience for this age group.

Dosage

Always take the medicine exactly as directed.The usual dose for alkalinizing the urine for uric acid stones is usually 3 effervescent tablets per day, divided into three equal doses.The pH value of the urine should be in the range of 6.2-6.8.If necessary, the dosage can be adjusted, with the evening dose preferably being increased or reduced.For the chemical dissolution of uric acid stones, the pH value should be adjusted to 7.0-7.2.In the case of calcium stones or in combination with uric acid stone disease, the pH value should be in the range of 6.8-7.4, although an individual dosage is required.

The duration of application depends on the size of the stone and can be between four weeks and six months.The exact duration of use should be determined by the treating doctor.In the event of an overdose, the urine pH value must be checked in order to adjust the dose if necessary.If you forget to take a dose, do not take a double dose, but continue taking it at the scheduled time.Do not stop taking it without talking to your doctor.

Intake

The effervescent tablet is dissolved in a glass of water and drunk immediately after dissolving.Stir the solution gently.Slight cloudiness or small insoluble components are possible.

Patient information

Before the first treatment, adequate renal function should be ensured and elevated serum electrolyte levels should be excluded.Regular checks of urine and blood values are required during treatment.To support the effect, you should reduce your salt intake and drink around 2-3 liters of fluid daily in the form of tea, fruit juice or alkalizing mineral water.In cases of severe liver dysfunction, the drug should be used with caution.The medicine has no influence on the ability to react.

Pregnancy

There are no known indications of harmful effects during pregnancy and breastfeeding.Before taking any medication, always ask your doctor or pharmacy for advice.

Other

If there is a simultaneous uric acid metabolism disorder, allopurinol preparations can be given together with effervescent tablets.Foods rich in purines should be avoided during use.A daily drinking amount of approx. 2 liters in the form of tea, fruit juice or alkalizing mineral water is necessary.Before use, the minerals in the serum should be determined and kidney function checked.One effervescent tablet contains 380 mg potassium ions or 9.7 mmol potassium and 220 mg sodium ions or 9.7 mmol sodium.

Urinary stone diseases

Up to 5 percent of the population in Germany is affected by urinary stone disease.The causes vary depending on the type of stone.Due to metabolic disorders, high concentrations of poorly soluble salts can occur in the urine and thus crystallization.The pH value of the urine also plays a role.A urinary stone can be as small as a grain of grain, but can also be the size of a chicken egg and larger.

Urinary stones can cause symptoms ranging from mild, barely noticeable pain to very severe pain (colic).Not every urinary stone triggers colic. Smaller deposits are not initially noticed.Although most stones are not very large, they cause significant pain because of their sharp-edged crystal structure.If a stone from the kidney gets into the ureter, it can cause sudden and repeated cramps (colic).Depending on where the stone is located, the pain radiates to the back, groin, thighs and genitals.Nausea and vomiting during colic can be distressing companions.In any case, an examination by a doctor is necessary.

Urinary stones often pass spontaneously when urinating.Knowledge of the composition of urinary stones is of great importance in determining the causes of stone formation.Every urinary stone should be analyzed carefully.The urine can be filtered to find lost stones.Have the urinary stones analyzed and follow your urologist’s treatment recommendations!

Urinary stone disease is a chronic disease of the entire organism.Depending on the stone composition, patients often form urinary stones again without preventive measures (high recurrence rates of 30-70%).General measures to prevent new stone formation include sufficient fluid intake (2.5 to 3 liters per day), a healthy, varied diet with reduced amounts of animal protein, regular exercise and weight normalization.
