Isotonic sodium chloride solution 0.9% B. Braun infusion solution is a saline solution that is administered intravenously.The solution contains sodium chloride in a concentration equal to the salt concentration in the blood.No prescription is required for this product.

Areas of application

This infusion solution is used to replace fluid and salt in the event of a disorder of the acid-base balance, in which the pH value of the blood is increased and the blood contains too few chloride ions.It is also used for chloride losses, as short-term intravascular volume replacement, for hypotonic dehydration and for isotonic dehydration.

Active ingredient and other ingredients

The active ingredient is sodium chloride.1 ml contains 9 mg of sodium chloride, which corresponds to 0.154 mmol Na+ and 0.154 mmol Cl-.The other ingredient is water for injections.

Application and dosage

The dosage depends on fluid and electrolyte needs.The maximum infusion rate and the maximum daily dose are determined by the attending physician.For adults, the recommended amount is 3-6 mmol sodium per kg body mass, which corresponds to an amount of 974 - 1948 ml of infusion solution per day for a 50 kg adult.For children the value is 3-5 mmol sodium per kg body mass.

Side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them.Possible side effects include an increased sodium chloride content in the blood (hypernatremia, hyperchloremia).If you notice any side effects, contact your doctor or nurse.

Storage

Keep this medicine out of the reach and reach of children.Do not use the medicine after the expiry date stated on the container.This medicine does not require any special storage conditions.Do not use the medicine if you notice any damage to the container or cap, or if the solution contains visible, solid particles.
