Colina® 3 g sachet - For the symptomatic treatment of acute diarrhea

Colina is a gastrointestinal therapeutic agent.The active ingredient is smectite (dioctahedral), a purified, naturally occurring aluminum-magnesium layered silicate that belongs to the smectite group.Due to its leaf structure and high viscosity, smectite (dioctahedral) is able to form a protective layer over the gastrointestinal mucosa and thus increases the resistance of the mucous membrane to aggressive substances.Due to its high binding capacity, smectite (dioctahedral) protects the gastrointestinal mucosa.Contains vanilla flavor and orange peel oil.

3 g smectite (dioctahedral), glucose 1-water, saccharin, sodium salt, orange flavor, maltodextrin, arabic gum, orange oil concentrate, natural, silicon dioxide 1-water, sucrose, diacetyl tartaric acid and fatty acid esters of glycerol, vanilla flavor, triacetin, ethanol, 3-sn-phosphatidylcholine (soybean).

Area of application

Colina is used for the symptomatic treatment of acute diarrhea in children over 2 years of age in combination with oral rehydration therapy (electrolyte supplementation) and for the treatment of acute diarrhea in adults.

Contraindications

The medicine must not be taken if you are hypersensitive (allergic) to smectite (dioctahedral) or any of the other ingredients of the preparation.

Dosage

Always take the medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you.Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure.Unless otherwise prescribed by your doctor, the usual dose for children over 2 years of age is 4 sachets daily (approximately every 4 hours) for up to 3 days, then 2 sachets daily (1 sachet in the morning, 1 sachet in the evening).The dose should be adjusted depending on the development of symptoms.The total duration of treatment should not be longer than 7 days without medical advice.For adults, the usual dose is 6 sachets daily (2 sachets in the morning, 2 sachets at midday, 2 sachets in the evening) for up to 4 days, which may be reduced to 3 sachets depending on the development of symptoms.The total duration of treatment should not be longer than 7 days without medical advice.

Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have the impression that the effect of the medicine is too strong or too weak.If you take more than you should, you may experience severe constipation and stomach stones.Please consult a doctor.Do not take a double dose if you forget to take the previous dose.If you have any further questions about using the medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Intake

The contents of the sachets must be dissolved and taken quickly before oral administration.After standing for a long time, you should stir well again so that the powder does not settle at the bottom.It should preferably be taken between meals.For children, please either use 50 ml of water (e.g. in a feeding bottle) or mix the powder with semi-liquid food (e.g. ready-made baby food, vegetable or fruit puree, soup).When taking smectite (dioctahedral), children must always ensure adequate fluid intake.For adults, the powder can be mixed into half a glass of water or into semi-liquid foods.

Patient information

Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this product if you have suffered from severe chronic constipation in the past.Short-term repeated use, as well as chronic use, is not recommended.If diarrhea occurs repeatedly over a short period of time or is chronic, please consult a doctor.Children should always ensure adequate fluid intake.To avoid dehydration, treatment in children and frail people should always be combined with oral rehydration therapy (electrolyte supply).If necessary, measures to compensate for fluid loss should not be omitted during treatment, even in adults.

This preparation has no proven or known influence on the ability to drive or use machines.

Pregnancy

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding is not recommended.

Notes

No prescription is required for this product. Other medications should not be taken at the same time as, but always 1 1/2 hours before or after taking the medication.If you have acute diarrhea with a high fever, you should always consult a doctor.The same applies if the symptoms have not yet significantly improved on the third day with the medication.Taking the medication is not a substitute for any fluid and electrolyte intake that may be necessary.
