LINGUMELT® akut contains the active ingredient loperamide hydrochloride.Each orodispersible tablet (lyophilisate) contains 2 mg loperamide hydrochloride.The other ingredients include pullulan, mannitol (Ph.Eur.), sodium hydrogen carbonate, aspartame, polysorbate 80 and peppermint flavor, which contains levomenthol.

Area of application

LINGUMELT® acute is suitable for the symptomatic treatment of acute diarrhea in adults and adolescents aged 12 and over.It is suitable for various situations, such as stress-related diarrhea, gastrointestinal upset, traveler's diarrhea, food intolerances or acute infectious diarrhea without fever.

Mode of action

The active ingredient loperamide in LINGUMELT® acute slows down overactive intestinal movement (motility) and thus extends the time the stool remains in the intestine.As a result, fluid absorption improves, stool consistency normalizes and the frequency of emptying decreases.This helps to effectively stop acute diarrhea.

Contraindications

LINGUMELT® acute must not be taken in cases of hypersensitivity to the active ingredient, levomenthol or any of the other ingredients, in children under 2 years of age, in cases of diarrhea accompanied by fever or bloody stools, in cases of an acute attack of ulcerative colitis, in cases of bacterial intestinal inflammation caused by invasive organisms such as Salmonella, Shigella and Campylobacter, in cases of diarrhea that occur during or after taking antibiotics, as well as in conditions in which a slowing of intestinal activity must be avoided, such as bloatingAbdomen, constipation and intestinal obstruction.If constipation, abdominal distension or intestinal obstruction occur, the intake must be stopped immediately.

Dosage

For adolescents aged 12 and over, the first dose is 1 orodispersible tablet.The repeat dose is 1 orodispersible tablet after each unformed stool, but not earlier than 1 hour after the first dose.The maximum daily dose is 4 orodispersible tablets.

For adults, the first dose is 2 orodispersible tablets.The repeat dose is 1 orodispersible tablet after each unformed stool, but not earlier than 1 hour after the first dose.The maximum daily dose is 6 orodispersible tablets.

The maximum daily dose must not be exceeded.The medicine should not be taken for diarrhea that lasts longer than 2 days.It is important to compensate for fluid losses by drinking more.

Intake

The orodispersible tablet is placed on the tongue and dissolves immediately.It is swallowed with saliva without the need for further fluid intake.

Patient information

It is recommended to speak to a doctor or pharmacist acutely before taking LINGUMELT®, especially if you have liver disease or have AIDS .Adequate replacement of fluids and salts (electrolytes) is important in the event of diarrhea, as large fluid and salt losses can occur.The medicine stops the diarrhea but does not eliminate the cause.The recommended dosage and duration of use of 2 days must not be exceeded to avoid severe constipation or serious heart problems.If diarrhea persists after 2 days of treatment, the medicine must be stopped and a doctor consulted.

Dizziness, tiredness and sleepiness may occur if you have diarrhea or as a result of taking it.Therefore, caution is advised in traffic and when working with machines.

Pregnancy

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine. Although no clear evidence of teratogenic effects has been found in a limited number of women who took the active ingredient of this medicine during pregnancy, you should not take the product during pregnancy.Since small amounts of the active ingredient can pass into breast milk, you should not take the product while breastfeeding.
