Information about Yomogi capsules

Yomogi capsules contain the active ingredient Saccharomyces cerevisiae HANSEN CBS 5926, a dry yeast also known as Saccharomyces boulardii.This product is available without a prescription.

Areas of application

Yomogi capsules are used to treat acute diarrheal diseases.They can also be used to prevent and treat traveler's diarrhea and tube-fed diarrhea.They also support the treatment of chronic forms of acne.

Mode of action

The dry yeast contained in Yomogi capsules binds pathogenic bacteria in the intestines.Laboratory tests have also demonstrated a growth-inhibiting effect on certain bacteria.

Contraindications

Yomogi capsules must not be taken if you are hypersensitive to yeast or any of the other ingredients of the medicine.Immunosuppressed or hospitalized patients as well as patients with central venous catheters should also not use the product.The medicine should not be used in infants and small children under 2 years of age due to a lack of dosage studies.

Dosage and application

The usual dose for children aged 2 years and over and adults to prevent traveler's diarrhea is 1 to 2 hard capsules daily, starting 5 days before departure.For acute diarrheal illnesses, 1 to 2 hard capsules daily are also recommended.To support the treatment of acne, 3 hard capsules should be taken daily.For diarrhea caused by tube feeding, the contents of 3 hard capsules (750 mg) are added to 1.5 liters of nutrient solution.

The hard capsules should be taken whole with sufficient liquid before meals.For children under 6 years of age, the capsule can be opened and the contents stirred into food or liquid.Treatment should be continued for a few days after the diarrhea has stopped.For acne, it is recommended to take it over several weeks.

Side effects

Taking Yomogi capsules can cause flatulence.In rare cases, intolerance reactions such as itching, hives, skin rash, swelling of the mucous membranes, shortness of breath and allergic shock may occur.Very rarely, fungemia (invasion of yeast into the bloodstream) or severe blood poisoning (sepsis) can occur.

Interactions

Taking Yomogi capsules at the same time as medicines for fungal diseases (antimycotics) can impair the effect.An increase in blood pressure is possible when taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors at the same time.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Due to the widespread use of yeast as a food, there are no known risks during pregnancy or breastfeeding.However, the medicine should not be used during this time.

Storage

Yomogi capsules should be stored at a temperature not exceeding 25°C and kept out of the reach of children.The medicine must not be used after the expiry date stated on the carton and container.

Composition

Each hard capsule contains 221.25 mg dry yeast from Saccharomyces cerevisiae HANSEN CBS 5926, corresponding to at least 1010 viable cells per gram of lyophilisate.The other ingredients are lactose, magnesium stearate, gelatin, purified water, sodium dodecyl sulfate, chlorophyllin-copper complex, titanium dioxide and iron oxide hydrate.

Notes

For diabetics, taking one Yomogi hard capsule should be counted as 0.01 bread units (BE).If diarrhea lasts longer than 2 days or is accompanied by blood or an increase in temperature, a doctor should be consulted.If acne worsens or does not improve, you should also consult a doctor.
