Instructions for use of Yomogi capsules for diarrhea

Yomogi capsules contain the active ingredient Saccharomyces cerevisiae HANSEN CBS 5926 dry yeast.This dry yeast comes from cultures of a defined strain and is offered in viable form.The product is available without a prescription.

Areas of application of Yomogi capsules include the treatment of symptoms of acute diarrheal illnesses, the prevention and treatment of traveler's diarrhea and diarrhea during tube feeding.It can also be used as a supportive treatment for chronic forms of acne.

Mode of action

The dry yeast contained in Yomogi capsules binds pathogenic bacteria in the intestines.In experiments outside of living organisms, yeast has also been shown to have a growth-inhibiting effect on certain bacteria.

Application and dosage

Always take Yomogi capsules exactly according to the instructions in the package leaflet.The usual dose for children aged 2 years and over and adults is:

To prevent traveler's diarrhea, take 1 - 2 hard capsules daily starting 5 days before departure.For acute diarrhea, 1 - 2 hard capsules daily.For acne, take 3 hard capsules daily.For diarrhea caused by tube feeding, give 750 mg (= contents of 3 hard capsules) in 1.5 liters of nutrient solution once a day.

Take the hard capsules whole with sufficient liquid (e.g. a glass of water) before meals.For children under 6 years of age, you can open the hard capsule by pulling the capsule halves apart and stirring the contents into food or liquid (room temperature).In the case of diarrhea caused by tube feeding, only the contents of the capsules should be added to the nutrient solution.

Treatment should be continued for a few days after the diarrhea has stopped.To support the treatment of chronic forms of acne, it is recommended to take it over several weeks.In principle, there are no known restrictions on the duration of use of yeast preparations.

Contraindications

Yomogi capsules must not be taken if you are hypersensitive (allergic) to yeast or any of the other ingredients of the medicine.Immunosuppressed or hospitalized patients (due to serious illness or a disturbed/weakened immune system) as well as patients with a central venous catheter should also not take the medicine.This medicine should not be used in infants and young children under 2 years of age due to a lack of dosage studies.

Side effects

Like all medicines, Yomogi capsules can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them.Possible side effects include flatulence, intolerance reactions in the form of itching, hives, rash, swelling of the skin and mucous membranes, shortness of breath and allergic shock.Very rarely, fungemia (invasion of yeast into the bloodstream) or severe blood poisoning (sepsis) can occur.

Interactions

Taking Yomogi capsules and medicines for fungal diseases (antimycotics) at the same time can affect the effect of Yomogi.An increase in blood pressure is possible when taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors at the same time.Please inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or using other medicines.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

The widespread use of yeast as a food has so far provided no evidence of risks during pregnancy and breastfeeding.Results of experimental studies are not available.Therefore, the medicine should not be used during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.

Storage

Store Yomogi capsules at a temperature not exceeding 25°C and keep them out of the reach of children.Do not use the medicine after the expiry date stated on the carton and container.

Composition

The active ingredient is Saccharomyces cerevisiae HANSEN CBS 5926 dry yeast.The other ingredients are lactose, magnesium stearate, gelatin, purified water, sodium dodecyl sulfate, chlorophyllin-copper complex, titanium dioxide and iron oxide hydrate.
