Ginkobil® ratiopharm 40 mg drops

Ginkobil® is a herbal medicine made from the extract of the leaves of the Ginkgo biloba tree.It contains ginkgo biloba leaf dry extract as the active ingredient.No prescription is required for this product.

Areas of application

Ginkobil® ratiopharm 40 mg is used for the symptomatic treatment of organic brain-related performance disorders as part of an overall therapeutic concept for dementia syndromes.These syndromes are manifested by a decrease or loss of acquired mental abilities, accompanied by memory impairment, difficulty concentrating, depressed mood, dizziness, ringing in the ears and headaches.The individual response to medication cannot be predicted.Before treatment with ginkgo extract is started, it should be clarified whether the symptoms of the disease are not due to an underlying disease that requires specific treatment.

In addition, Ginkobil® ratiopharm 40 mg is used to extend the pain-free walking distance in arterial occlusive disease in the limbs, also known as “intermittent claudication” (intermittent claudication in stage II according to FONTAINE), as part of physical-therapeutic measures, in particular walking training.

Furthermore, the drug can be used for dizziness caused by circulatory disorders or age-related regression processes (vertigo of vascular and involutive genesis) as well as for the supportive treatment of ringing in the ears as a result of circulatory disorders or age-related regression processes (tinnitus of vascular and involutive genesis).

Active ingredients and ingredients

The active ingredient in Ginkobil® ratiopharm 40 mg drops is ginkgo leaf dry extract, extracted with acetone-water in a ratio of 35-67:1.Each milliliter drop, which is approximately 20 drops, contains 40 mg of this extract.This extract contains various components such as ginkgo flavon glycosides, ginkgolides A, B and C, bilobalide and a maximum of 0.2 µg ginkgolic acids.

Other ingredients include saccharin sodium 2-water, glycerol 85%, propylene glycol and purified water.

Contraindications

The medicine must not be taken if you are hypersensitive (allergic) to Ginkgo biloba or any of the other ingredients.The medicine should also not be used during pregnancy.

Dosage

Always take the medicine exactly as directed.Please ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

For the symptomatic treatment of brain-organic performance disorders, adults aged 18 and over should take 20 to 40 drops 3 times a day, which corresponds to 40 to 80 mg of ginkgo extract 3 times a day.The duration of treatment should be at least 8 weeks.After a treatment period of 3 months, the doctor must check whether continued treatment is still justified.

To extend pain-free walking distance in the case of peripheral arterial disease, adults aged 18 and over should take 20 drops 3 times a day (equivalent to 40 mg of ginkgo extract 3 times a day) or 40 drops 2 times a day (equivalent to 80 mg of ginkgo extract 2 times a day).The improvement in walking distance requires a treatment period of at least 6 weeks.

For dizziness and to support the treatment of ringing in the ears, adults aged 18 and over should take 20 drops 3 times a day (equivalent to 40 mg of ginkgo extract 3 times a day) or 40 drops 2 times a day (equivalent to 80 mg of ginkgo extract 2 times a day).Use for dizziness over a period longer than 6 to 8 weeks does not improve the treatment result.Supportive treatment for ringing in the ears should be carried out over a period of at least 12 weeks.If there is no success after 6 months, this can no longer be expected even with longer treatment.

It is taken 3 times a day in the morning, midday and evening, and 2 times a day in the morning and evening.

Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have the impression that the effect of this medicine is too strong or too weak.The medicine is not intended for use in people under 18 years of age.

Intake

The drops are taken undiluted or in a little water.It can be taken regardless of meals.

Patient information

Particular caution is required when taking the drug.There are no sufficient studies on the use of this medicine in the age group under 18 years.It should therefore not be used in children and adolescents under the age of 18.

Pregnancy

Since there is some evidence that preparations containing ginkgo could increase the risk of bleeding, this medicine must not be taken during pregnancy.This medicine should not be used during breastfeeding as there are no sufficient studies.It is not known whether the ingredients of the extract pass into breast milk.

Notes

Frequently occurring feelings of dizziness and ringing in the ears generally require medical clarification.If hearing impairment or hearing loss suddenly occurs, you should consult a doctor immediately.

Contains less than 1 mmol sodium (23 mg) per 40 drops, meaning it is virtually “sodium free”.Please do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the pack or outer packaging.The expiry date refers to the last day of the specified month.
