Tebonin® special 80 mg is a herbal medicine that is used to treat symptoms of organic brain-related loss of mental performance.It is approved for use as part of an overall therapeutic concept in cases of decline in acquired mental abilities, also known as dementia syndrome.The main complaints that it can treat include memory problems, difficulty concentrating, depression, dizziness, ringing in the ears and headaches.

Mode of action

Tebonin® special 80 mg contains a special extract of ginkgo leaves, which is obtained using a patented manufacturing process.This extract, known as EGb 761®, improves the energy supply in the nerve cells of the brain and can therefore improve mental performance, concentration and memory in the case of organic brain-related performance disorders.

Each film-coated tablet of Tebonin® special 80 mg contains 80 mg of dry ginkgo leaf extract, which is extracted with acetone 60% (m/m).This extract corresponds to 19.2 mg of ginkgo flavonoid glycosides.In addition, the product contains the following other ingredients: microcrystalline cellulose, croscarmellose sodium, iron(III)hydroxide, hypromellose, lactose 1-water, macrogol 1500, magnesium stearate, corn starch, highly dispersed silicon dioxide, simeticon-alpha-hydro-omega-octadecyloxypoly(oxyethylene)-5-(E,E)Hexa-2,4-dienoic acid water, talc and titanium dioxide.

Tebonin® special 80 mg is used to treat complaints caused by organic brain-related loss of mental performance.These can manifest themselves as memory problems, difficulty concentrating, depression, dizziness, ringing in the ears and headaches.Before treatment with ginkgo extract is started, it should be clarified whether the symptoms are not due to an underlying disease that requires specific treatment.

Dosage and intake

The usual dosage is 1 film-coated tablet 2-3 times a day.The film-coated tablets are swallowed whole with a little liquid and can be taken without regard to meals.

Patient information

The duration of treatment for organic brain performance disorders depends on the severity of the clinical picture and should be at least 8 weeks for this chronic disease.After a treatment period of 3 months, it must be checked whether continued treatment is still justified.In the case of dizziness and ringing in the ears, no further improvement in symptoms can usually be expected after a treatment period of 6-8 weeks.

Pregnancy

During pregnancy and breastfeeding, you should only take medication after consulting your doctor or pharmacist.Animal studies have shown no evidence that ginkgo extracts have any effects on the unborn child.However, since there is no experience in humans, the benefits of treatment must be carefully weighed against the possible risks during pregnancy.It is not known whether ingredients in the extract pass into breast milk.

Contraindications

The product should not be taken if you are hypersensitive to any of the ingredients mentioned, during pregnancy or breastfeeding and in children under 12 years of age.The product should only be used in consultation with a doctor if you have an increased tendency to bleeding and are simultaneously taking anticoagulant medications, before operations and if you have a known seizure disorder (epilepsy).

Tebonin® special 80 mg contains lactose.The product is available in different pack sizes.

Sad moods or frequent dizziness and ringing in the ears generally require clarification by a doctor.Before treatment with ginkgo extract is started, it should be clarified whether the symptoms are not due to an underlying disease that requires specific treatment.The individual response to medication cannot be predicted.If memory problems, difficulty concentrating or headaches persist for longer than 3 months despite using the medication as directed, a doctor should be consulted.If hearing impairment or hearing loss suddenly occurs, you should consult a doctor immediately.If skin reactions occur or if you have persistent headaches or gastrointestinal complaints, you should consult a doctor so that he or she can clarify whether there is a connection with the use of ginkgo extract or whether the symptoms are due to another cause.
