Areas of application

Sodium chloride 5.85% Braun is used to supply sodium chloride when there is a low sodium level in the blood (hyponatremia), a low chloride level in the blood (hypochloremia) and when there is excess fluid and a reduced concentration of salts in the blood (hypotonic hyperhydration).

Active ingredient and composition

The active ingredient is sodium chloride.1 ml concentrate for preparing an infusion solution contains 58.5 mg sodium chloride, corresponding to 1 mmol Na+ and 1 mmol Cl-.1 ampoule of 20 ml contains 1.17 g of sodium chloride.1 vial of 100 ml contains 5.85 g of sodium chloride.The other ingredient is water for injections.

Application instructions

Sodium chloride 5.85% brown is a concentrated solution of sodium chloride (table salt) for the preparation or enrichment of infusion solutions.It is administered as an intravenous infusion after being diluted in an appropriate carrier solution.Your doctor will determine the right dose for you.The maximum daily amount depends on the need for correction.

Contraindications and precautions

Sodium chloride 5.85% Braun must not be used if there is an increased sodium level in the blood (hypernatremia) or an increased chloride level in the blood (hyperchloremia).Particular caution is required in the case of low potassium levels in the blood (hypokalemia), heart failure, fluid accumulation in the tissues, high blood pressure, severe kidney dysfunction and treatment with corticosteroids or ACTH.

Use with other medicines

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or using other medicines, especially adrenal hormones (corticoids) or ACTH, as these can reduce the excretion of sodium chloride and water.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Before using any medicines, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice.Caution is advised in cases of eclampsia.

Side effects

Like all medicines, sodium chloride 5.85% Braun can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them.Possible side effects include increased sodium and chloride levels in the blood, diarrhea, increased urine output, and irritation of the vein wall.

Storage

Keep medicines out of the reach of children.You must not use the medicine after the expiry date stated on the container.Do not store above 25°C.Only use sodium chloride 5.85% brown if the solution is clear and free of suspended particles and the container is intact.The containers are intended for single use.
