Nystatin acis oral gel is a yeast-specific antifungal agent used for the treatment of nystatin-sensitive yeast infections of the oral cavity (oral thrush). It has a fungicidal or fungistatic effect against Candida albicans infections. Oral thrush can be caused by favourable factors such as dentures, chronic diseases such as diabetes or HIV, and the use of inhaled glucocorticoids. The oral gel is applied to the mucous membrane of the mouth and then swallowed. Infants and toddlers up to 24 months of age should take 1/2 - 1 scoop into the oral cavity before and after each meal. Children over 2 years and adults should take 1g of gel 3 - 6 times a day, in severe cases every 2 hours. The duration of treatment should be at least 2 days after the symptoms have subsided and should not exceed 4 weeks. The oral gel contains the active substance nystatin and other excipients. It should not be used in cases of hypersensitivity to the ingredients. It is also not recommended for use in infants under 4 months of age and children in whom the swallowing reflex is not yet fully developed. Possible side effects are gastrointestinal complaints and hypersensitivity reactions of the skin. The mouth gel is well tolerated and tastes pleasantly of raspberry. It can be used both during pregnancy and breastfeeding after weighing the risk-benefit ratio. Before use, it should be noted that the gel can be additionally applied to the affected areas with the help of a cotton swab. The tube thread should be cleaned after use and the tube tightly closed. The product should be stored at temperatures below 25 °C. The medicinal product should not be used after the expiry date stated on the container and folding box and must not be disposed of in waste water. In general, the oral gel can be used for fungal infections in the oral cavity, but possible allergic reactions to antifungal agents and intolerance to sucrose should be taken into account. Certain maximum quantities apply to the quantity of products supplied for the safety of the medicinal product.
