Calcimed D3 500 mg/1000 I.U. chewable tablets are a calcium-vitamin D3 preparation for the prophylaxis and treatment of calcium and vitamin D deficiency in elderly people and for the supportive treatment of osteoporosis. One chewable tablet contains 500 mg calcium and 1000 I.U. vitamin D3. The tablets have an orange flavour and are well tolerated. Calcium is important for the skeleton, muscle work and other metabolic processes in the body. Vitamin D3 is needed for calcium to be incorporated into the bones. Calcimed D3 500 mg chewable tablets can be used for the therapy and prevention of vitamin D and calcium deficiencies as well as for supportive treatment in osteoporosis. The recommended dosage is one chewable tablet per day for adults and elderly people. The tablet is taken by chewing it thoroughly. The medicine should be taken regularly and continuously. In the event of an overdose, symptoms such as muscle weakness, increased thirst, abdominal pain, constipation, nausea and vomiting may occur. The medicinal product must not be taken in the case of increased calcium blood levels, increased calcium excretion in the urine, hyperparathyroidism, bone marrow cancer, cancer with bone metastases, prolonged immobilisation of the limbs and severe kidney problems. Side effects may include increased calcium levels, constipation, flatulence, abdominal pain, nausea, hives, itching, skin rash and shift in the acid-base balance in the blood.
