Active ingredient and composition

The active ingredient in St. John's wort capsules 500 mg is St. John's wort powder.Each hard capsule contains 500 mg of St. John's wort powder.The other ingredients are magnesium stearate (vegetable), purified water, gelatin, iron (III) oxide (E 172) and titanium dioxide (E 171).

Dosage and application

Adults should take one hard capsule twice daily.The capsules should be taken whole with sufficient liquid.It should be taken as regularly as possible at the same times.Use in children and adolescents under 18 years of age is not recommended as there is insufficient data.

If your symptoms persist for more than two weeks, you should see a doctor.An overdose may cause convulsions and confusion.In such cases you should consult a doctor.

Contraindications

St. John's wort capsules 500 mg must not be used if you are also taking certain other medicines that contain drugs such as ciclosporin, tacrolimus, sirolimus, indinavir, nevirapine, imatinib, irinotecan, phenprocoumon, warfarin, midazolam or hormonal contraceptives.The medicine must also not be used if you are known to be allergic to one of the components or if your skin is known to be hypersensitive to light.

Its use is not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding as the safety of the drug in these cases has not been adequately studied.

Side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them.Possible side effects include sunburn-like skin reactions, allergic rashes, gastrointestinal complaints, tiredness or restlessness.The frequency of occurrence is not known.

Interactions

St. John's wort capsules 500 mg can interact with numerous other drugs, which can reduce or increase the effectiveness of these substances.These substances include, but are not limited to, theophylline, digoxin, verapamil, simvastatin, midazolam, hormonal contraceptives and certain antidepressants.

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines.

Storage

Keep this medicine out of the reach and reach of children and do not use it after the expiry date stated on the carton or container.The medicine should not be stored above 25°C.
