Product features

Mepilex is a foam dressing made of soft silicone that adapts perfectly to the wound.It effectively absorbs exudate, maintains a moist wound environment and reduces the risk of maceration.The Safetac® wound contact layer optimizes adhesion, minimizing pain when removing the dressing and trauma to the wound and surrounding skin.

Scope of application

Mepilex is suitable for a variety of exuding wounds, including leg and foot ulcers, pressure ulcers, as well as traumatic injuries such as skin tears and secondary healing wounds.The bandage can also be used to protect injured or sensitive skin and is used as a prophylactic treatment to avoid skin injuries such as pressure sores.

Application

Mepilex can also be used by laypeople under the supervision of a healthcare professional.First, the wound is cleaned according to clinical practice and the surrounding skin is dried.The appropriate dressing size is then selected, which should cover the dry skin by at least 1 - 2 cm (for smaller sizes) or 3 - 5 cm (for larger sizes) to prevent maceration and securely fix the dressing.The bandage can be trimmed if necessary.

After removing the first protective film, the adhesive side is placed on the wound.The remaining protective film is then removed and the bandage is smoothed over the skin without stretching it.If necessary, Mepilex can be secured with a bandage or other fixation.Dressing changes may take several days and should occur before complete saturation, when there is evidence of leakage, or according to clinical practice.Mepilex can be used under compression bandages and in combination with gels.Disposal must be carried out in accordance with local environmental regulations.

Precautions

Mepilex should not be used in patients with known hypersensitivity to the dressing or its materials.It must not be used together with oxidizing agents such as hypochlorite solutions or hydrogen peroxide.A healthcare professional should be consulted if there are signs of clinical infection, such as fever or redness, warmth or swelling of the wound or surrounding skin.The dressing is not reusable as this may affect performance and lead to contamination transfer.Mepilex is sterile and must not be used if the sterile barrier is damaged or opened before use.Re-sterilization is not permitted.

Warnings

The polyurethane foam used in the product may turn yellowish when exposed to light, air and/or heat.This color change does not affect the product properties as long as the product is used before the expiry date.No prescription is required for this product.
