Mode of action

The Seresto collar for dogs up to 8 kg against ticks and fleas contains two main ingredients: imidacloprid and flumethrin.Imidacloprid kills adult fleas and their larvae upon contact with the treated animal.Flumethrin repels and kills ticks.The two active ingredients are embedded in the polymer matrix of the collar and slowly and continuously reach the natural external fatty film of the dog's skin and fur.This creates a “protective layer” that repels and kills annoying parasites.The parasites do not need to sting to be killed.

Dosage

Remove the collar from the protective cover and remove any remaining plastic connections, which could be leftovers from the manufacturing process, as these can cause skin irritation.Place the collar around your dog's neck and pull the protruding end of the collar through the tabs.Cut off any excess tape more than 2cm after the second tab.The collar should be neither too tight nor too loose.Ideally, two fingers should fit between the collar and your dog's neck.The collar should be worn without interruption for the 8 month duration and then removed.

This collar was developed with a safety clasp.In the extremely rare cases where a dog does become entangled, its own strength is usually enough to expand the collar for quick release.

Seresto collar for dogs up to 8 kg against ticks and fleas is a veterinary medicine.It is used to prevent and treat flea infestations (Ctenocephalides felis, C. canis) with a duration of action of 7 to 8 months.The veterinary medicinal product prevents the development of flea larvae in the animal's immediate environment for 8 months.It can also be used as part of the treatment strategy for allergic skin inflammation caused by flea bites (flea allergy dermatitis, FAD).

The veterinary medicinal product has a persistent acaricidal (killing) effect on tick infestations with Ixodes ricinus, Rhipicephalus sanguineus, Dermacentor reticulatus, as well as a repellent (anti-feeding = preventing the blood meal) effect on tick infestations (Ixodes ricinus and Rhipicephalus sanguineus) with a duration of action of 8 months.It is effective against larvae, nymphs and adult ticks. It is possible that ticks already present on the dog at the time of treatment may not be killed within the first 48 hours of collar application and may remain attached and visible.Therefore, the ticks that are already on the dog at the time of treatment should be removed.

Protection against new tick infestation begins within two days of putting on the collar.The veterinary medicinal product provides indirect protection against transmission of the pathogens Babesia canis vogeli and Ehrlichia canis by the vector tick Rhipicephalus sanguineus.This reduces the dog's risk of babesiosis and Ehrlichiosis over a period of seven months.To reduce the risk of infection by the pathogen Leishmania infantum, which is transmitted by sand flies, over a period of up to 8 months.For the treatment of hair lice infestation (Trichodectes canis).
