Capstar 11.4 mg tablets for cats and small dogs is a veterinary medicine with the active ingredient nitenpyram.This product is intended for the treatment of flea (C. felis) infestations in cats and dogs.No prescription is required for this product.

Areas of application

Capstar 11.4 mg tablets work directly and quickly against adult fleas.They are well tolerated and can also be administered to lactating kittens or bitches as well as to puppies from the 4th week and with a body weight of at least 1 kg.This product is particularly suitable if fleas have been discovered on your animal and you want to act quickly before using a long-term preparation.It is also suitable if you are picking up your animal from a kennel or holiday care and want to ensure that no fleas are brought home with you.It is also an option if long-term protection against flea infestation is not an option for you and you prefer tablets.

Mode of action

Capstar 11.4 mg tablets contain the active ingredient nitenpyram, which acts directly and quickly against adult fleas.The effect begins just 30 minutes after administration and ensures that the fleas on the animal are killed.After 6 hours, almost all fleas on the dog or cat are dead.This can prevent adult fleas from sucking blood and laying eggs, which can then spread throughout the wider area.

One Capstar 11.4 mg tablet contains 11.4 mg nitenpyram as the active ingredient.The other ingredients are microcrystalline cellulose, corn starch, lactose monohydrate, anhydrous silica and magnesium stearate.

Contraindications

If you are known to be hypersensitive to any of the ingredients, this product should not be used.There are no other known contraindications.

Dosage

The recommended dose is one tablet per animal, ideally with food (before or immediately after feeding).As a rule, treatment with just one tablet is sufficient for acute flea infestations.Repeat treatment may be necessary for severe flea infestations.For long-term prevention against fleas, a product with a long-term effect is recommended.

Patient information

Capstar 11.4 mg tablets should not be used in animals younger than 4 weeks or weighing less than 1 kg as these animal groups have not been studied.

Notes

Capstar 11.4 mg tablets should be kept out of the reach of children.They should not be stored above 25°C and protected from light and moisture.Unused veterinary medicinal products should preferably be disposed of at pollutant collection points.If disposed of together with household waste, it must be ensured that this waste cannot be accessed improperly.Veterinary medicines must not be disposed of with waste water or via the sewerage system.

Side effects

In the first hour after administration of Capstar, your pet may experience increased itching caused by the fleas' reaction to the product.In very rare cases, temporary hyperactivity, panting, vocalizing, and excessive grooming or licking may occur.Transient neurological symptoms such as muscle tremors, ataxia and convulsions have been reported very rarely.

Use during pregnancy, lactation or laying

Nitenpyram can be administered during pregnancy and lactation.Studies in laboratory animals did not provide any evidence of teratogenic or foetotoxic effects.The tolerability of the product has been proven in pregnant and lactating cats and dogs.

Interactions with other medicines

There are no known interactions with other medicines.In clinical studies, no adverse drug reactions were observed when nitenpyram was used concomitantly with other veterinary products, including other common flea treatments, anthelmintics, vaccines or antibiotics.

Shelf life and storage

The shelf life of the veterinary medicinal product in the intact container is 3 years.It should not be stored above 25°C.
