Capstar 11.4 mg tablets for cats and small dogs

Capstar 11.4 mg tablets are a veterinary medicine used to treat flea infestations in cats and small dogs.The active ingredient Nitenpyram has a targeted effect against fleas (Ctenocephalides felis).

Areas of application

The tablets are suitable for treating flea infestations in cats and dogs.They can be used on animals weighing from 1 kg to 11 kg.

Contraindications

There are no known contraindications.

Side effects

Increased itching may occur in the first hour after administration as the fleas react to the medicine.In very rare cases, transient hyperactivity, panting, vocalization, and excessive grooming or licking may occur.Transient neurological symptoms such as muscle tremors, ataxia and convulsions have been observed very rarely.

Use during pregnancy and lactation

Nitenpyram can be administered during pregnancy and lactation.Studies in laboratory animals showed no teratogenic or foetotoxic effects.Tolerability has been demonstrated in pregnant and lactating cats and dogs.

Interactions

There are no known interactions with other medicines.In clinical studies, no adverse drug reactions were observed when nitenpyram was used concomitantly with other veterinary products.

Dosage and method of administration

The minimum effective dose is 1 mg/kg body weight.There should be no more than one treatment per day.The tablets can be given directly or with a small amount of food.Capstar does not have a long-term effect, so appropriate treatment to control immature stages of the flea life cycle is recommended.

Overdose

Information on overdose is not available.

Shelf life and storage

The veterinary medicinal product has a shelf life of three years in an intact container.It should not be stored above 25°C.

Disposal

Unused veterinary medicines should preferably be disposed of at pollutant collection points.Disposal with household waste is only safe if unauthorized access is ruled out.Veterinary medicines must not be disposed of via wastewater.

Composition

One tablet contains 11.4 mg nitenpyram as the active ingredient as well as the other ingredients microcrystalline cellulose, corn starch, lactose monohydrate, anhydrous silica and magnesium stearate.
