Isotonic saline is an infusion solution used for plasma isotonic fluid replacement in dehydration and for moistening dressings. It contains 9 g sodium chloride, 154 mmol sodium ion and 154 mmol chloride ion. It must not be used if you are hypersensitive to sodium chloride or suffer from overhydration. Dosage is based on fluid and electrolyte requirements. In case of overdose, overhydration and increased osmotic pressure may occur. The medicine is administered intravenously and can also be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
