Nystatin acis cream is an antimycotic used to treat fungal infections of the skin and mucous membranes. It acts specifically against yeast fungi, especially Candida species. The active ingredient nystatin inhibits the growth of the fungi and kills them at higher doses. The cream should be applied thinly to the affected skin areas and rubbed in gently. The duration of treatment is about 6 days. In severe cases, hourly application may be advisable. The medicine is well tolerated and can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Side effects are rare. People who are allergic to nystatin or the other ingredients of the cream should not use the medicine. There is no impairment of the ability to drive or operate machinery. The cream contains 100,000 IE nystatin per gram as the active substance and other excipients. The package leaflet should be read before use. The medicinal product is available only on prescription and should only be used after consultation with a doctor or pharmacist.
