Areas of application

L-arginine hydrochloride 21% brown is a concentrate for preparing an infusion solution.It contains arginine hydrochloride, the salt of an amino acid, as its active ingredient.This product is used to treat severe metabolic alkalosis, i.e. an excess of alkali or hypoacidity.It is also used in pediatrics to reduce elevated blood ammonia concentrations caused by severe inborn errors of metabolism.

The active ingredient in L-Arginine Hydrochloride 21% Brown is arginine hydrochloride.One 20 ml ampoule contains 4.214 g of arginine hydrochloride.In addition, the product contains water for injections as an additional ingredient.

Application and dosage

This medicine is used by healthcare professionals.It is administered as a venous drip (intravenous infusion) after dilution in a suitable infusion solution.The dosage is determined by the doctor according to the extent of the acid-base status disorder and based on blood analyzes and the patient's body weight.

Contraindications and precautions

L-arginine hydrochloride 21% Braun must not be used if the blood is too acidic (acidosis) or if there is an increased potassium content in the blood (hyperkalemia).Particular caution is required in the case of amino acid metabolism disorders and impaired kidney function.Checks of serum electrolyte values and acid-base balance are necessary.In the case of metabolic alkalosis with a simultaneous low potassium level in the blood, the simultaneous intake of potassium is necessary.In diabetics, the blood glucose concentration must be checked.

Side effects

Like all medicines, L-arginine hydrochloride 21% Braun can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them.Possible side effects include disorders of amino acid metabolism, increases in blood sugar in diabetics, gastrointestinal complaints such as nausea and vomiting, and intolerance reactions.

Storage and preservation
