Instructions for use: Isopropyl alcohol 70% (V/V)

Isopropyl alcohol 70% (V/V), also known as 2-propanol 70% (V/V), is a solution for application to the skin and for making cooling compresses.The solution contains 63.1 grams of 2-propanol per 100 grams and purified water as an additional ingredient.

This disinfectant is available in two dosage forms: 100 milliliters and 200 milliliters solution.

Areas of application

Isopropyl alcohol 70% (V/V) is used for hygienic and surgical hand disinfection, skin disinfection before simple injections and punctures of peripheral vessels, skin disinfection before operations and before punctures of joints, disinfection of skin rich in sebaceous glands and for use as cooling compresses.

Contraindications

Isopropyl alcohol 70% (V/V) is not suitable for disinfecting open wounds.

Interactions with other agents

There are no known interactions with other products.

Warnings

Isopropyl alcohol 70% (V/V) is highly flammable and should be kept away from sources of ignition.If the solution is spilled, measures against fire and explosion must be taken immediately.Suitable measures include picking up the spilled liquid, diluting it with water, ventilating the room and eliminating sources of ignition.

Dosage instructions and method of application

For hygienic hand disinfection, the hands are rubbed with the solution and kept moist for 30 seconds.For surgical hand disinfection, hands and forearms are rubbed with the solution and kept moist for 5 minutes.For disinfection before simple injections and punctures of peripheral vessels, the skin is carefully rubbed with the solution and kept moist for 15 seconds.For disinfection before operations and before punctures of joints, the skin is carefully rubbed with the solution and kept moist for 1 minute.To disinfect skin rich in sebaceous glands, the skin is carefully rubbed with the solution and kept moist for 10 minutes.For cooling compresses, the solution should be diluted with equal parts of water.

The times specified are minimum times.Depending on additional difficulties, such as moist skin, soiled skin or risk of the procedure, the exposure times should be extended.Isopropyl alcohol 70% (V/V) does not kill spores and is therefore not suitable for storing sterile instruments and syringes.

Side effects

Storage instructions

The product should be kept tightly closed.Medicines should be kept out of the reach of children.After the expiry date, the product should no longer be used.
