Dekristol 500 I.E. tablets contain the active ingredient colecalciferol (vitamin D3). They are used to prevent rickets and osteomalacia in children, adolescents and adults. They are also used for the prevention of vitamin D deficiency diseases in people with an identifiable risk and for the supportive treatment of osteoporosis in adults. For premature babies with a birth weight over 1500 g, one tablet daily is recommended. For infants and young children, the recommended dosage is also one tablet daily. Children, adolescents and adults can take one to two tablets daily. The tablets should be taken with sufficient water. Long-term treatment with a daily dose above 500 I.U. requires regular monitoring of blood and urine calcium levels and kidney function. People with certain health conditions or hypersensitivity to the ingredients should not take the medicine. Various adverse effects may occur. It should be stored away from heat and in the dark.
